The group has been of great benefit, and great fun, but I can't take the full commitment of time & treasure that this hobby seems to require. I'd love to rub shoulders, but I'm afraid I'll come across as a complete want-to-be. If the opinion is that this meeting is too advanced for me, I'll accept that without any hard feelings.
Thanks in advance.

Do not in any way be intimidated by the gear. It's the people who own it you need to watch out for.

Seriously, you are welcome and encouraged to attend. You can bring your rig or choose to leave it home. People bring their setups to these meets to share them, not to make anyone feel bad or excluded. It's a great opportunity to hear stuff you otherwise would never get a chance to try. Bottom line: Meets are about having fun, listening to gear, and actually getting to meet members of the community in person.
