Exactly, if you blow all your money on buying us drinks you just wont be able to go to the bar for a month or so. Us working stiffs have kids, wives, mortgages, car payments, and all the rest of it. My budget is probably tighter than yours!

IF I can make it, would you be interested in hearing either?
Yes, I would be very interested in comparing these two DACs to each other and the DLIII. They are all in the $500 - $1000 category.

Great, bring it/them along. What amps were you thinking of?

I would like to hear this DAC. Before buying the DLIII I was considering this as well. I know it's a bit cheaper than the other DACs mentioned but if we get enough DACs we can bracket and create categories like <$500, $500-$1000, and $1000 plus. We can add more categories if we get more DACs involved. We can rate the best DAC in a price class and then have a "Best in Show".

True that it always seems like we are going to be short sources when we're organizing but it always seems to work out in the end. My source has both balanced and single ended outputs, and I have a single ended amp. So theoretically someone with a balanced amp could share my source (although if you have a balanced amp I'm sure you have a proper source, too). However, the manual says that it can be done but it's not recommended. I'm not quite sure if that's because performance will suffer or if it could damage the source. I would think it would be more the former than the latter.

A meet may also not be the best environment to test DACs but what other opportunity will we have for something like this? All the DACs will be heard in the same listening environment so at least we can make some basic comparisons. I'm going to try and have some Zen Time from 2 to 4 PM, or thereabouts.

I'm bringing the Cary Xciter, which has a msrp of $1700, but it would be interesting to see if it is $700 better (or at least 5% better) than a $1K dac.

I could also bring my $300 Ack! dAck! but my car is getting pretty full.

Alos, small request. Could we eat somewhere different than last year? The food wasn't too good.

Ah, DACses! My favorite!

Given NYC's source-first mentality (which I, of course, applaud), I will now DEFINITELY bring the skipjack. Only problem is that it is unbalanced only, but still a neat little device for A/B/C/Ding (yup, we can do 4 at a time) DACs.

Ah, that would be interesting. You know what my money is on. ^_^

Sounds great, Aaron. I'd love to hear the Cary. I just got rid of the Ack, but the retail price is $795, at least on V2. Anyway, it would be good to see what I traded for. So far, I think the DLIII is an upgrade but audio memory is funny thing.

Mamaroneck Diner & Pizza
Sorry about that place last year. I handn't been there in a while and apparently they changed owners and not too long afterward the place closed down.

I think the diner would be best since they'l have everything, including a bar. But if there is something else people are looking for let me know and I'll do some more research. In Mamaroneck, they have basically everything from pizza to Indian to Mexican to pub grub, with a little Asian fusion thrown in. This time I plan to stick around for dinner. Last year I had to go to my bosses Christmas party.

my Headamp Gilmore V2 SE (a rather neutral amp - essentially a G!-1, but better sounding) has 2 rca inputs.
my Audio-gd C2C has one rca and 1 xlr input.
lemme know which will work out best here, or if you want both.

Gilmore V2 SE sounds like a good choice. My DAC has XLR outputs but I don't know about the others and I don't have proper cabling.

Also I think The Monkey said has some kind of switching device that we can use so multiple inputs on an amp may not be necessary anymore.

It's gonna be a real smackdown!

I'm really starting to like my new DAC. I'm curious to see how it holds up.

There's no quite time planned for this meet, is there? If not, I doubt we would hear the differences between dacs.

I think it would be nice if there were a few "quiet time" slots planned throughout the meet.

- A big part of the fun of these meets is socializing and when it gets crowded, it gets loud as we all try to speak up to hear each other. But we have to have fun and socialize!

- But another great part of the meets is for everyone to be able to demo gear, and it is a lot easier to listen if there is minimal background noise, so if we could have that for a few time slots during the day, it would be a good thing, IMO...

That would give us the best of both worlds for the meet!

What do you guys think? Looking forward to it!

Vinnie

we should probably do a gear/space count.

if the meet is a full house, space could be an issue and we should make sure that people do not bring in excess.

Oh there will be quiet time, alright, even if I have to get Yikes to enforce it.

Gear count has changed once again, and this time..I'm bringing tubes!!

I picked up a little cheapy tube amp on eBay that is proving to be worth several times its price tag, SQ wise, so that'll be coming along, my custom mini3 will be there, and so will my styleaudio Topaz in the DAC/Amp category.

If anyone has some extra 6DJ8 tubes floating around that they could bring so I could try rolling this new amp, let me know! I've also got a huge box full of vintage tubes, so if anyone is bringing a tube amp and wants to try some rolling, let me know the fitment and I'll see what I've got. A lot of RCA in particular but some Phillips as well.

Hi all,
I'd love to attend, as I'm in the "general" area. My only concern is that I'm pretty intimidated by the hardware being discussed. I'm on a budget, and have scraped together whatever I could beg, borrow, or buy off ebay. The group has been of great benefit, and great fun, but I can't take the full commitment of time & treasure that this hobby seems to require. I'd love to rub shoulders, but I'm afraid I'll come across as a complete want-to-be. If the opinion is that this meeting is too advanced for me, I'll accept that without any hard feelings.
Thanks in advance.
