Time for a new mp3 player, but which?

My trusty creative zen vision M is finally dying after 6 years so I'm starting to look for a replacement.
SQ is obviously the top priority, not fussed on touchscreen, videos, pics, apps, wifi etc (this will be used for music only). FLAC & OGG playback would be nice but not essential.
I'd prefer a flash based over HDD but they still seem to cost a lot more for larger capacity (and don't seem to go bigger than 32GB).
I've looked at the D2+ (16GB then get a 32GB SDHC) and the Clip+ (8GB then get biggest microSDHC I can) but are there any mp3 players with flash drives larger than 32GB? My music collection is huge (all FLAC) but if I convert to mp3 it still comes out at about 40GB+ so something with 64GB would be great (a SDHC expansion slot aswell would be great but I'll get realistic )
From reading around the Cowon S9 and Sony players seem to be regarded pretty high with great SQ but both are about £300 for a 32GB.
The other player I looked at is the new iPod classics, no idea what theyre like for SQ but 160GB for £160 is pretty hard to beat from what I've seen.
So any help would be much appreciated.
Currently I have a pair of Sennheiser CX300's (was planning on upgrading these but they'll have to wait as a new mp3 player is more important)

Look at the NW-A847.

Thanks saw this on engadget a while ago but isn't this only being released in Japan?

At the moment there's only a release in Japan, but there is no reason why they won't release there new flagship model outside of Japan. The X was released in the US and Europe about three weeks later.

Well fingers crossed then as this looks great, any others that are already released in UK?

Currently there is only one 64GB flash player, namely, ipod touch. I doubt if it can be compared to A847 as a DAP. In fact, A847 is a first DAP for a long years that really impressed me.
With any other DAP you're going to some compromises; it seems that A847 is the only great-sounding player with a useable interface (both software and hardware) and not a short of memory. That is four simple, basic conditions, but i can't remember now any other modern DAP that satisfies at least some three of the four, and there is not as much DAPs satisfying two of the four.

Yeah might have to just pick up a cheap sansa clip or something to keep me going until the A847 is released (or something similar)
Seen the new iTouch are 64GB but don't want to pay that much for loads of features I won't be using.

A847 is not only 1.5 times cheaper than iTouch - SQ of A847 is better (it is possible that A847 is just the best modern DAP on the market SQ-wise), it is lighter, and it is more easy to use as a DAP (it has hardware buttons instead of this crappy touchscreen). The only benefits of iTouch are the apps and WiFi+browser... oh yes, and the apple logo.

Right will watch the A847 thread and wait for it to be released in Europe.
Apps, WiFi+Browser and Apple logo aren't benefits for me

I know this shouldn't really be a consideration, but those new OLED Walkmans ... well, they're not pretty.

Really? I'd say there much nicer looking than most things on the market (few exceptions like the cowon S9)...well the black one anyway, few of the colour choices are a bit strange

Yes, unfortunately, there is no apple logo on them. For some people, lack of apple logo is enough to make device "not pretty".

Just wanted to say thanks to all posting in this thread -i am in same position as OP in regards to new player, and this new sony a-series looks amazing. There is a sandisk fuze on sale through newegg right now (4gb) for $49.99 which i might pick up while i wait

Previously, i was between cowon d2+ and s9, but couldn't make up my mind because i didn't think i would use the video playing features of the s9 to justify the cost (and lack of external card expansion).

I had the same thoughts about the S9, lovely looking but only 32GB and the video functions are one of the main features but I wouldn't be using them

Such vitriol, daggers to my heart!

The arrangement of the buttons, fashioning some kind of "chin", is very unattractive.
