Sansa Clip+ and Sennheiser IE8?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I finally decided that I wanna go portable and therefore I need to find a good rig.

Im really not interested in watching videos or pictures or whatever and so only the Sound Quality is important.
First I was close to buy the cowon s9 cause most of the reviews on the internet said its the best mp3 player(SQ) out there.
Now Im not so sure anymore about buying the cowon s9 cause I read that the sansa Clip+ has an even better SQ.
(besides its much cheaper, has a microSD slot(so possible 40gigs), is without all this for me useless stuff like video, huge screen, touchscreen etc. and is smaller)

Questions:

1. So I now wanna ask you guy if its true that the Sansa Clip+ is as good or better than the cowon s9?
Are these both even the best DAPs in terms of SQ? If no what is the best one?

2 . My second question is if you think it would work well with the Sennheiser IE8 IEMs? Would I need an additional amp?
If yes, which would you recommend me? The FIIO E5 amp or is there any better small and portable amp?

I hope somebody can help me!

Thanks!

I use my IE8 with the clip. This ultra-portable rig sounds fantastic. The clip has got a really strong in-built amplifier and it can drive the IE8 no problem. The Fiio E5 in this chain only makes the sound a bit more dynamic, tight, and a bit more spacious soundstage. To me the introduction of the fiio E5 in this rig is worth it.
Definitely go for this rig. You will not regret.

can someone or the OP elaborate on this? i decided to go with the s9 as my next dap and might have to rethink my purchase if the clip+ has better sq.

thanks

I was in the same position of considering the s9, but I only want it for audio. After reading reviews of the Sansa Clip+, I bought one.

I can't comment on the SQ, but the smaller size and price were appealing.

I've got the exactly same question..

Right now, I'm planning on getting the S9..

BTW, the question about the SQ of S9 vs. clip+ still remains unanswered. Any expert comments/reviews on this?

Please answer it.

Thank you.

My IE8s will be here next week and I can give you a comparison of a a clip+ alongside an iphone 3g, an EMU 0404 USB, and a modded denon 2910 to an audio-gd C-2C

i have both clip+ and s9, i cant compare directly right now becuase my S9 is awaiting RMA but i can tell you that from what i remember, while the clip sounds VERY good with my IE8, the S9 has a slight edge,

From what I understand, the consensus between people with both Clip+ and S9 is that the S9 is superior.

I also have IE8. Is there anyone who had listened sony x series against clip? I would really really like to know is the difference in the price worth in sq!
