DealExtreme: $151.51 SmartDevices SmartQ 5 4.3" 800 x 480 Touchscreen Linux MID (667MHz ARM CPU/WiFi/Bluetooth/1G Flash)

anyone seen that?
looks interesting, because it runs a modified verson of ubuntu, and supports usb host, meaning usb keyboards and modems mice and harddrives can be connected.

wonder if it'll take usb dac too? i'm pretty keen to find out

By itself, the default OS is pretty inefficient and lags in some areas. Also not all of the menus have been translated (like time and date). However, Maemo is being developed for it and so far the betas (Mer 0.15) prove to be several times better than the Ubuntu version installed on the X5s or X7s.

I wouldn't treat it as a DAP or PMP since it does neither well. SQ is decent but video playback is disappointing (limited processing power and resources). It's really only good for reading documents and surfing the web.

I'm planning on getting one just for those two things as my netbooks are getting to be too cumbersome for quick trips.

There is also the Chuwi W3000. Threads like this...MP4 Nation Forums • View topic - Chuwi W3000 Rocks, knocks the Q5 in the nutz and a few videos of it.

The English OS is out and more places like MP4 nation should carry it before too long(licensing issues). It beats the Q5 since the screen is nicer, it comes with 4GB vs. 1GB, has a camera, also has a Wolfson chip and works better for video and audio. No actual price yet but the talk is 4GB for ~$150 and 8GB for ~$170.

I have a SmartQ T5-II as my main audio player right now and it is a damn good one but following these two devices, the Chuwi is the one I will be getting. It came out later and is behind as far as porting/programming but it works faster/better out of the box.
