Avant-Garde Classical/Jazz

I'm placing an order in Amazon soon and lately I've been in the mood for some Avant-Garde music, both classical and jazz. If anyone has any recommendations that are well recorded and at a reasonable price that would be great.

Also, for the jazz rec, I kinda want to steer clear of the well known musicians (i.e. Dolphy, Coltrane, etc.). I'm lookin for an "unknown gem" if you know what I mean.

Here are just a few that are on the top only because they've recently been through my listening rotation.

Nels Cline - New Monastery and The Inkling
Tim Berne - Diminutive Mysteries
Vandermark 5 - Target Or Flag (but I've been going through all my V5 and Ken Vandermark recordings and they are all great)
Irene Schweizer - Chicago Piano Solo (an amazing album!)
Lounge Lizards - Self Titled
David Ware - Threads and Live in the World
Willam Parker - Raining on the Moon
Anthony Braxton - Quartet (Dortmund) 1976
Circle - Paris Concert

I've got tons more, but these are the freshest in my memory. Also, x2 on anything by Henry Threadgill.

I was looking into this album a few months back but it was like 30 on amazon. I'll check to see if its gone down, hope so.

If you are interested in Circle, you might also want to check out Dave Holland's "Conference of the Birds".

Have you heard Christian McBrides "Live at Tonic". He's not exactly unknown, but at this club he brings in a beat-boxer, scratch pad, barry sax, and on and on. It's a very fresh jam session and...it's awesome.

Thanks again for the awesome recs jazznap. You have great taste in music. I am a big fan of Holland, being a bassist it's only natural riight

I do know Christian McBride, fantastic bass player. I have Vertical Vision, I actually just listened to it again a few days ago. Live at Tonic sounds pretty great! Another great live show recorded at The Tonic was MMW's album called `Tonic`. You should check it out.

More Henry Threadgill: "Song of My Tree", "Where's Your Cup".

Any Sam Rivers. He does a nice turn on that Dave Holland "Conference of the Birds" album recommended above. There's also an Andrew Hill album that's included in Sam's Blue Note reissues that is amazingly beautiful music.

Dewey Redman, Albert Ayler. Sonny Murray. More Anthony Braxton. Cecil Taylor.
