Theta Digital compli blu is a rebadged oppo. - Page 3

I must've not been around when vaguely technical discussions mainly centering around prices and industry practices became equivalent to science. It's my loss I guess, I should probably go back and absorb the vast ocean of scientific knowledge in the other, locked, thread. Cough.

Yeah, from what I can tell, this thread contains nothing regarding "sound" or "science", much less "sound science." Maybe move it to the source components forum?

Becuase people who buy high end equipment want to think that they are buying something special or better and when one has proof that this is not the case they ignore or censor what that said proof is.

How is it not science? Would these changes in a power supply have an audible effect?

All the more reason to keep it in this forum.

Sometimes it helps to go right to the source.

Looks like Theta completely reworked this base unit to a far larger degree then first let on (around here). They also changed the firmware code and likely the digital algorithms that process the data from the various media it will play...not to mention redesigning the tray suspension and chassis among other touted changes......Although I have a hard time swallowing that all of this adds up to 2500US in upgrades it's clear that what Theta did do was or is pretty substantial vs the base Oppo unit.

The PSU section is nothing special in terms of parts or design although it is a competent unit for the job after looking it over. I would have liked to see a more thoroughly built PSU much along the lines of what some here have suggested (the better transformers for one) and use of UWB (ultra wide bandwidth and super quiet) shunt regulators in place of the bog standard LM devices. It certainly could be user upgraded in such a manner for even greater performance (so could the stock Oppo for that matter)

Not much is said about the analog output stages....which I find more than a little odd for a player boasting such improvements over the Oppo. For 3K I'd expect a much improved 2 channel analog out stage at the very least (maybe even balanced) and some upgrading of the surround analog outs.....I wonder what was done if anything at all ?

Anyone have knowledge of the Theta's analog back end ?

EDOT: I must commend Theta for yet another terrific pdf manual...typical Theta attention to detail and excellent setup info (room setup/speaker placement etc).

Peete.

Seriously? This product is a joke anyone who has seen the internal hardware shots can come up with that conclusion, and then the info on theta's web site is more snake oil peddling.

The oppo runs a switching power supply and the theta does no, do you know what a switching power supply is?

Steve, just a question if you don't mind. When people respond to your posts are you being paid a fee or any other considerations ? Thanks.

You are saying I am incorrect? Can you post up some info on how I am incorrect? If theta changed the power supply for the better why are the specs the same? Unless you think that theta did DBT's with their unit and the oppo?

I believe that frozenice has a valid question here. He did not state that you were incorrect, he was merely asking what he was asking.

No I am not, I am doing this to show people that high end audio is more or less a scam.
