Sony D-131

Thread Starter
I recently got a Sony Discman-a D-131 for $1.

It's from 1994 and has line-out and variable MEGA BASS (norm/mid/max).

The sound quality is very good when using the bass boost.

Some technical information:
-uses KSM-331A optical pickup
-very easy to dissassemble and has trim pots for various adjustments
-DC jack is intergrated on the main board (instead of being on a separate board-as seen in models like the D-121)
-main IC's used in the D-131 are:

Sony:
CXA1672Q
CXD2507AQ
CXP508L6

Motorola:
SC111281

Other:
BA3574AFS
TC 424 9293FN

There is no optical output on the D-131. You're misinterpreting his post.

Still a good deal for a buck. Although I was never impressed by the sound quality of the D-131. Most earlier models sound superior to it, at least to my ears. I always thought the D-131 was somewhat muddy or congested sounding, relatively speaking. It was one of Sony's cheapest models at the time of its release, so the lack of sound quality is understandable. I owned about 20 other models to compare it to.

Heh,

Don't get me started on that Blue Meanie...

I spent countless $$$ on Discmen (as my epic review will attest)...

That reminds me, I really should sell some of them on (the only two I did sell on were the D555 and D25S...)

Hey Duncan,

I remember reading your zillions of in depth reviews on portable CD players back when I joined head-fi back in 2003. Many thanks for all of the effort you put into them. I posted a few times in the discman repair thread to help folks out. It all seems like ancient history now, doesn't it?

I can't believe that you sold your D555 and D25S. Those are two I would've hung onto.

I finally sold all my portables, including my two portable DCC tape machines (I miss those). The only one I kept was my D15, because it was my first portable CD player.

Ah, reminiscing, lol...
