15,000 songs later...... - Page 2

that's a lot of listening.

i often think about doing the same with my classical (~1000 CDs) but it seems like too much effort. plus taste/preferences change.

Yeah, same here. If I deleted everything that I didn't like on the first listen, I'd probably have ended up getting rid of almost every album that I now love.

x4. There's a lot of good music that takes more than one listen to get into. There's also a lot of music. I also own a lot of CDs that I haven't listened to in years and since I digitized them, I wonder why I haven't been listening to them.

iTunes says I have 34,469 tracks and last.fm says has scrobbled 36,602 in the last year and a half. So listening to my whole library in one go is doable, but for me not desirable. I still have around 50 CDs that I've bought recently at thrift stores that I haven't ripped and those are the only ones I haven't listened to at least a couple of times.

A year and a half and you are left with Toto, Styx, and John Tesh?

If that isn't evidence that this is a poor approach to listening to music, I don't know what is.

LOL, isn't that the truth. I guess that's what being in your 40s with two small kids will do for you, I just don't get to hear much new these days.

I still like Styx. It's comfort music. I'm also in my 40s, so yeah, go figure.

Unfortunately my copy of The Grand Illusion is on vinyl and doesn't get much spin time now that I've gone to computer as source. Gonna have to get that one on CD. One of my early headphone memories is of listening to "Renegade" on a 45 with some big Pioneer headphones that had individual volume knobs on each ear cup and plush vinyl on the outside. Good old 70s styling. At least I wasn't listening to disco.

That's about all you can say about Styx I didn't like them back in the 70s, but when I recently saw a Pieces of Eight CD at a thrift store for $1, I bought it. If anything I like them less now.
