Ref1 + Phoenix: Obviously for CAST connection.
Buffalo + B22: no clue.

It would be natural to pair the best reference DIY amp and DAC for the best price/value reference combination.

Ref1+Phoenix is quite good in the value department too, based on specs, design, and my impressions of the Phoenix.

Whoa there..lets not be hasty to term the B22 as the "best" DIY amp out there.

The B22 is great but there are other DIY amps that are in the same league if not do better than the B22. At this level it comes down to preference.

Of course going by the OPs post with no other DIY amps listed..then yes in this case the B22 is default the "best" DIY amp.

Although I've never heard B22.. I think DNA Sonett scales extremely well against those in terms of excellent performance/price ratio

May want to add Donald North Audio Sonett to the list

The problem of DIY amps is that I don't possess the expertise to accomplish the task. I've got to find some professional builder. I've tried to contact Ying of YBM. It's two times more expensive than Phoenix. And rumor says they are in the same league. I really need to try them maybe?

Any DIY can be great with the best components and etc. But that requires the skills. I don't know you can buy the B22 for less than $2k. I was quoted 4k$ once and I gave up.

I asked Ying at YBM for the price of a balanced four boards beta22. It's not below 2000$ but it's not far from that. And he is very responsive.
