16GB SONY 639F $120 @ Best buy

Having played with the Zune HD in the store, I quickly picked this bad boy up! I have my iPod touch for the app store and internet and I am sure the Sony beats the HD in SQ. It is hard to beat for the price. I know 16GB is not enough for the most of you, but some may be on the fence in the new Ipod Nano, sansa Clip+, Fuse, HD maze. I think this beats all of them for $120. Be quick, most stores don't even have it anymore (only on display or hidden away). That is a great chance to get the floor model even cheaper without the plugs... Just find a manager with a brain... that won't be easy though. I almost got the floor model 20% off in a store but Mr stupid didn't give me the cord (WTF?) but wanted me to buy one. It would have been more expensive than getting an unopened product with cord, cd, earplug... He didn't get what is the problem. They also scratched the hell out of the players back with scissors in front of my eyes while taking it off the display. It is aluminum, I can tell that now for sure! Anyway, great deal now, no need to wait for shipping!

The 16GB Sony beats the 8GB Clip+ how? The Clip+ has great SQ with my UM3X, and with a $45 micro SDHC Card, which I have, it is about $100 for 24GB storage. I have the Sony A818, not bad. But for portable heaven, the Clip, a new product with Rockbox potential, is really a better deal than a battered Sony DAP. Oh, and the Clip also plays flac.

Clip or fuze can also play a relative new open source format named LossyWav that I recently have been testing out and manage able to implement in Foobar, it can reduce flac files by up to 50% and keep the transparency and information so that you at any time can convert it back to the original cd level. And it is a flac file, named lossy.flac. It works great on clip and fuze and I believe it will be format possibility that will challenge the original flac, mp320 or acc lossless very soon, if not already..

"lossyWAV is a free, lossy, audio pre-processor. It is designed to be used on PCM audio contained in the WAV file format in conjunction with certain lossless audio codecs to which it adds a lossy / hybrid variant. It reduces the bit depth of the input signal on a block by block basis by rounding lower significant bits (lsbs) to zero which adds a predetermined level of noise to the output, at or below the pre-existing noise floor. When the processed file is losslessly encoded using one of the a forementioned lossless audio codecs, the resulting bitrate of the encoded file is significantly reduced compared to encoding the unpreprocessed original audio data. The option is available to the user to create a correction file which can be utilised to revert the .lossy.wav file to lossless."

lossyWAV's primary goal is to maintain transparency with a high degree of confidence when processing any audio data.

Yeah... The clip wins for sure for storage... but does it sound as good as the S639 with the EQ, Clear bass, dynamic normaliser, DSEE... the clear stereo and surround isn't that useful, but the SONY has that too. It is loud and sharp. The buds come with the unit are way better than I ever expected they could be (EX85... light years ahead of the EX71) so much so, that I am content with them while on the move. The SONY has an album art view... that is useful as well. I haven't tried the clip though... the A818 has less features than the S639... may be the clip has a better SQ, but I'd be very surprised if that held true.

Lossless is a great thing... Once we have the 256 GB players I might even switch for good measure. Right now (as I don't hear any difference with 320 MP3 and 256 AAC) I think it is useless to use lossless files on a portable player.

It doesn't have a clip though....Have to say I'm torn between them. The clip also has a standard USB. The Fuze doesn't I don't think.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been playing w/ a touch for a few weeks and have finally decided I just don't need a portable browser/app/game device (massive time waster).

I'm thinking about going back to the Zune HD which sounded better (wider soundstage, more clarity) or checking out this cheap sony. Thing is, I REALLY liked the Zune software.
