Isn't A818 a MTP player? Then database rebuilding also occurs on PC (or on the player while uploading music, not after), it is just transparent to you. What you see in "My computer" when connecting a MTP player is not a real filesystem tructure of the player; it is possible that the player even doesn't have a filesystem. MTP is just a set of interfaces like "read file", "write music file", and when you're writing a file, internal database is updated. It is like SS, but instead of SS that is Windows.

Your making a mountain out of a molehill. Look at any video review of the player. Of course it uses tags. Are there any new DAPs that don't? If you have an issue with the time it takes for a player to update itself. Either there's a problem with the player or you are updating a lot of files each time. Because it shouldn't be an issue. The first time you load up the player. It's going to take time to build a database of 16+ GB of files.

Going to keep an eye on this thread as this looks perfect for me, just hoping it gets released in the UK soon (and the 64GB is priced reasonably)

BTW, i've just opened a local sonystyle website, and the prices on X are rather... impressive.
$550 for X1050 and $700 for X1060, nearly 2 times higher than in US.

Not strange at all: the NW series was always Asia/Japan only, the NWZ for Euope. Just by looking at the model name we could know it wasn't going to be available in Europe and the US... real shame. I love my A729 and would have JUMPED on a 64GB Sony player.

We can say (and this is obvious) that NW-A840 won't be released worldwide. But that doesn't mean that there would not be NWZ-A840 with the same specs, so this your sentence has nothing to do with:

I own the NW-X1060, not the NWZ; it's just the only English manual I found. So I know what I'm talking about. I've dragged and dropped ATRAC files, unplugged it from my PC, and it rebuilds the DB. Like previous Sonys I've owned or still own, it rebuilds the DB fairly quickly. I've never timed it, but it's never been long. Maybe if I loaded up all 32GB it'd be longer, but I don't do a full transfer at one time.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO MANUALLY REBUILD THE DB.

I don't know how else to tell you.

Well that's indeed very true. The NW A840 will be Japan or Asia only (not read the link). But there may (hopefully!!) be a NWZ-A840. Though so far I believe the Asians get the slightly better players. Let's hope it changes and we'll get something 100% equivalent.

Thanks for an answer. It seems that flash memory realy speeds up a process.

If you're doing drag&drop, device will not know which files have been updated, it should perform a full scan.
