Two ebay shop has it listed. It is about $540 for 64 GB. Those two are in business for a while, good rating. If anyone is interested...

No it doesn't, but I wouldn't mind posting a translation if I decide to go ahead and grab one.

Also, not sure how many people are down to grab one, but we could set up a group buy and speak with the eBay vendors or pricejapan for some special pricing

Personally I wonder why people are surprised again and again that the Japan models of the Sony walkmans have Japanese-only menus. It's been posted multiple times in multiple places. Since they support things like ATRAC (and SonicStage) that are not supported elsewhere, theyt don't support any other languages.

If you want an English one, in this case, there is no NWZ equivalent to the NW-A84x series.

The menus are in the same place as the English players, so it isn't that hard to figure out.

Exactly - there's a reason they're regional. My take is that a Sony 64GB DAP for NA is around the corner - either an X series or an A84x sans SS/Atrac and supporting whatever bluetooth/NC IEMs they want to tack on. The issue is Sony may not release both an upgraded X and A - economic times being what they are - but we should see an NA 64GB something sooner more than later (crosses fingers). For that capacity on an S-amp sound engine I'm willing to consider a 64GB X (the touchscreen/wifi are unwanted features).

I want a 64GB X with touchscreen and ATRAC, but could care less about WiFi or a browser. I don't use Internet functionality on my Japanese X. I'm hoping by some magic a 64GB X shows up in Tokyo when I'm there next week

I just need my DAPs to do one thing at the epic scale, could care less about added features since people are slowly shifting to the smartphone population.

Not always true. When the NW-A91x series came out in Japan, there was NO equivalent in the USA for quite some time.

I lurk but can actually add some input here so forgive my low post count.

This is true. I have the 32gb brown one and it's almost exactly the same menu in the same spots as the X series, with some additional stuff such as TV out functions near the bottom of menus. I wouldn't let the language be a barrier for purchase. Just spend a day with it and cross reference with the X series manual and you'll figure it out. If you know katakana, you're already halfway set in regard to reading everything.

My advice is to wait for a 64gb X series or for the A series to come over if you really want the capacity, or just buy a 32gb X series if you don't care. Maybe even go for an iPod touch 64gb. I own a first gen 16gb which I loathed but lately they seem to be a good alternative here...

Importing is far too overpriced if you're looking for functionality vs. cost. I don't have an X series, but soundwise it should be similar. Maybe some other owner can compare them both. You're just getting less features, a smaller screen, and wafer thin design for more money. The X series is still overpriced IMO, but it will be cheaper than importing and has some other gimmicks to satisfy users. Unless you're like me and really, really wanted brown to go with some JVC FX500s, then it's another story...

If you do decide to import, try to get a case. The a840 is light and the finish on the back creates so many air pockets that it slides off anything (including hands!!!). The finish reminds me of bumpy matte plastic actually, even if it is aluminum. I feel like the weight isn't distributed that well, too (seems off-balance, the glass half probably being the reason). It will meet the ground sooner or later. It unfortunately already has happened to me. Mine has a battlewound in the corner that I covered with a metal star sticker. I have the clear case coming soon now because of this. It'll be another overpriced expense, considering "Sony tax," middle-man importer fees, and shipping.

If you're left-handed, expect some usability issues due to its design. The inability to switch orientation during videos that would accommodate holding it as a lefty is not present as well (that I know of). I'm clueless about radios in general but I don't think the radio works in the USA either. I think the battery life might also be less than the X series. You can see where I'm going with this.

It's a nice player but ultimately up to you to deem it a worthy purchase or not. I hate black-colored electronics, but otherwise I would have been more comfortable with the thicker and more sturdy looking X series. I just hate owning things I am afraid to use and the a840 seems very fragile despite its housing. At the very least, I'm pleased with its sound. YMMV.

For some reason, we dont have that kind of discount in Australia. Hence the only choice to get good price is to import from other countries. I would not be suprised if the A84x really come out the market on australia, it will still cost at least 100aud more than import. And the good thing for import into aus is there is no tax as long as the price is less than 1k AUD. Planning to get these A84x this Chirstmas but was put off by the comment that they are not as good as the X series even though they both have S-amp. Really like the design of the new A84x but SQ comes first for me
