RP010B-MkII or Balanced B22 - Page 3

Yup yup on the design/measurement front. Personally I prefer the Dynamight (Balanced dynahi) to the beta22/dynamid, but it's a matter of personal taste at that point. It's a little less dry (Compared to the beta22 for me) and more punchy than the dynamid....

I am eager to hear what my dynaphat (Balanced dynafet) sounds like though whenever that is complete...

Is Dynaphat the official name now?

Dunno.. I guess its up to the man to decide ;p

How does the GSX drive the AKG K1000?
Haven't really given it a shot since I don't have an adapter, but I doubt it'd be anything close to a top tier amp for that purpose.

What about your CEBA, have you tried your K1000 with your new amp?

It's pretty good, but a little under powered. With my Spectral DAC which is pretty low voltage (0.75 voltage output versus the more standard 2) I have to crank it all the way up to get to listening/slightly above listening volume. With my other sources its fine. It's a very solid performer though and doesn't really hold back the k1k but it also doesn't take it to the max like some of the 300B amps I've heard.

Overall though I like it... though I am questioning if I should have the crossovers put back in or not (I got them for dirt cheap but the crossovers were taken out... I still have them sitting around though). I do not feel like spending a ton of cash on a better amp right now.. but I'll probably have something sweet DIY'd at some point or do it myself if I pick up ze skills.

In a nutshell what's the main difference between the GS-X and the Gilmore Balanced Reference?

I see you're the kind of guy that likes to make up his mind without all that annoying hocus pocus, like actually listening to the amp. You're going to fit right in. I'm going to keep an eye out for your reviews. I can print them and line my cat's litter box. Thanks ever so much!

Find one and read. Then show me yours. Surely, it won't be biased, as MOTs are volunteers enlightening people each time what is best for them, surprise - each time the MOT's stock.

Honestly I based my evaluation of the RP-010B MkII abilities on build quality and circuit considerations. After that, on some people's impressions. You can find them. Each time I try a global feedback amp, I hear the same limitation, sorry. Maybe I'm crazy but sounds common for chip or discrete designs, even hybrids. Won't tell the name as touching holy cows is hazardous right here. See some true high-end amp initial assumptions. No feedback loops but DC coupling? Not necessarily. Actually, I realized that some headphones sound better thru a capacitor coupled output than without it and global DC feedback involved, or using DC servo - even worse. It's just me but maybe not only me.The problem is that the DC coupled output is never a true 0 VDC. For some magnetic materials and transducers this might matter.

Post up the schematic and internal pics.

I'll summarize: "No, I haven't heard the Rudi amp."

GSX/Apache is not a good match for the K1000. i recently acquired a HR Bal Home (maxxed) and i am pretty impressed with it. the BUDA + DPS is supposed to sound quite similar. doubt either can do K1000 duties but besides the B22, i'm not sure if any bal solid state can.

Dynamid was OK for the K1000, not the best combination, but not bad. A Dynahi, even unbalanced was nicer.

FallenAngel, have you ever build a Dynachi, SE or Balanced?
