Defective 3gs bad sound quality??

Ok so I'm new here and stumbled upon this great forum while trying to find answers regarding 3gs sound quality. My question is not whether it is good or not, I've already spent time reading other threads and come to the conclusion that the sound quality is great. So this leads to my issue. Before having the 3gs I had a 4g nano. After about a week of using the iPhone I went back to the nano and immedietly noticed a difference. At first listen it sounded as if the 3gs was flat with weak bass. (I'm not really an audiophile so I don't know the terms but I will try to explain. I was also testing using the included earphones and then palm pre earphones.) I
was a little dissapointed that my new 3gs could sound worse than my nano. So I did alot of testing, first hooking it up to the car through the headphone port. After listening and comparing countless times, I found that the lower bass was fine, but things like vocals sounded weak, flat, and bassless compared to the nano. Vocals and higher frequencies (?) on the nano somehow sound richer than the 3gs. All the same audio files, no EQ, etc etc. So my question is, based on the praise of the 3gs' sound quality, do you think there is something defective with my hardware, or do I not really now the difference between good and bad sq? Also what terms could I use to explain this to an apple genius in the case I went to try and explain?

Seems to me that you would have to compare it with another 3gs in order to determine whether or not your particular unit is defective.

It may simply be that you prefer the sound the nano is putting out compared to that of the 3gs.

To The low end audio gears, burning in will improve subtle. So never expect the burning in will make a good progress.

I world like to say you are use to Nano'S sound signature.

If you want to have a really quite different sound quality, i thing Sony X, HIFIMAN or AMP3 will give you a completely difference experience.
