Stockhom, Sweden (Sept. 11-12, 2009) Impressions - Page 4

Looking forward to your meet impressions Daniel, as well as the impressions of your new toy! As far as I recall the Harmony Design amp is a straight forward, no fuss, good amp that indeed should be worthy of driving your new HD800s.

Two pictures of joy that I took

Very happy to be able to own them, impressions will follow on later.

@Snejk My DAC is the major setback in my setup atm I recon (hot rodded x-fi soundcard).
Hopefully I will solve this in a near future, right now Im pretty thorn between a Lavry DA11+DNA Sonett combo (I really like both pices at the meet, but didnt have the chance to team them up) or Phoenix+Ref1 combo (havent heard this but at the price of 2500$ this is really feels hard to beat).
Got a few weeks before next payday to decide. ;-)

The Lavry DA11 seems to match well with tubes. I have tried it with the Stax tube amp and my impression is that this sounds better with the Lavry than the 717. It is the contrary in my main rig with the Reimyo DAC but this is smoother and a little warmer than DA11 - and also more transparent (although much more expensive). The DA11 also sounded very good with my Leben CS300 and HD800 - I bought it for K1000 and had no possibly to try it with HD800 for some time - rewired stock cable for balanced but now had made an adapter to SE.
The HD800 seem to need very long time to break in - the brightness settles downs although the sound character remains the same. Good luck!

Or you can get the Meier-Audio StageDAC, got mine a week and a half ago. So far I am very happy with it but I haven't gotten around to any serious testing yet, just enjoying it.

Very nice pics, especially the closeup.

@Snejk Gonna take a look at that

Talked alot with Robert when I was at audioconcept yesterday and he seems really excited to arrange more meets, hopefully maybe this spring again.
He also asked me if I knew something about the HD 800 connectors to make DIY cables.
So I mailed the links I could find on this forum to him, so hopefully you can get your hands on a balanced cable at Audio Concept in a near future aswell. :-)

He have built a few β22's and may still have one around.

Edit:
And the man himself responded faster than me.

Sorry for bumping an very old thread, but doesnt it feel like its soon time to do something like this again?

Absolutely. I spent a couple of hours at audioconcept last week together with spahn_ranch, to demo HD800 and JH13/16, along with some gear we brought ourselves. I spoke with Robert from the store and he wouldn't mind hosting a meet again, in the autumn.

How was it to compare the JH13/16 universals? I still havent raised the funds for an propper amp for my HD800 yet, but we'll see if I can prioritise it soon.

I really liked having the meeting at audioconcept so that would be really nice.

*Edit* The song that was used when Struts was trying out the DAC's on the focal speakers, anyone know the name of it?

Could it possibly be something with Tord Gustavsen Trio?

No idea on what song struts used, pm him?

The JH13/16 demo was great and I enjoyed both very much. After the demo my conclusion was that I preferred the 16s but now my mind is playing tricks on my memory, making me think it had too much bass. Got to get back there and do another demo.
