I think he likes the gear he is used to better than new. I see that with his guitars, almost always uses the Gibson Les Paul and some acoustics like the backpacker from Martin & Co. Same for the headphones since the US2 is not the latest most innovative headphone out there, and in the studio he uses the Senn HD 265 Linear.
