The drivers are glued into the plastic housings, so I don't think you'll be able to just push them down.

When I liberated my drivers on my 80i's, the housings had to be cut, then literally broken away from the driver.

ah. it looks like with enough pressure they would just sit back in the outer plastic shell.

Did you try it?

Did it work?

I pushed down on them with a little pressure and could hear glue cracking. I called and talked to the man himself and he said that what I have are RS1s. I guess they are fine the way they are. Just not what im used to. The only thing that is different is that when wearing comfies, the plastic sticks out a little more. i can do a mod like kramers above and be good to go.

So I guess they are good to go.

pad rolling is a big part of the fun with the grado.  i think those would be awkward with comfies for sure....personally at the price of an RS1 i'd be unhappy with that solution...

Yeah, they use a pretty strong glue to hold the drivers in the housings.

Did Grado see the pic's of the drivers? If yes…they said there OK this way?

Hmmm ... I wouldn't be happy if it were me. I'd be returning them for a refund I think.  You can then just buy a new pair (and see for yourself if the original pair were 'standard' RS1is ... ).

ehh, im a pretty impatient person. I dont like waiting on stuff. I had these overnighted. So it seems the warranty process will take longer than I would like to get them back. I guess I will just sit and wait and see if others start receiving rs1s with raised drivers. Like I said, he told me that they were rs1s. I will be upset if I dont see more people getting them in this state since Im led to believe this is normal.

Anyway, he has no reason to lie to me so Im good with him saying they are fine.

Somehow I think Grado ****ed up again and just doesn't want to admit it. I doubt they intended it to be like this. But then again, it's the same for both cups and how can one **** up pushing a driver in a wooden cup?

If they want less soundstage they should just ship them with flats again.

Oh, and a wooden box....

Hmm... I don't know about that.  I for one absolutely do not like the feel of the cheese cloth touching against my ears.  This looks like it could present that scenario when the foam pads soften up over time.

So I guess now the RS1i has been replaced by the RS1s (or RS1is) ?  Is that what they are saying?  Or are there two versions now?

Oh and in regards to the soundstage image, its the driver diaphragm surface position thats key.  So if they kept the original position of the driver / voice coil... but just pushed out the cheese cloth mesh surface, it may not have that much of an impact on the image/soundstage.

What is with the red goop on the driver magnet?  Couldn't they find suitable dampening material in black, so its non-visible?  That looks terrible.

The other thing it looks like they have done is increase the cup volume behind the driver, by seating it farther out.  If that was one of the intentions, a longer/taller wood cup would have been preferable.  Grado modders have been doing this for a while now.

I would tell them that these are not acceptable, and ask for a different pair…I don't think in any way these were put together correctly. I don't mean too insult/upset you…but there not right. I've had/have 7 pairs of Grado/Alessandro's, and all of the drivers were flush with their housings, and the cups, no matter the model.

I kept saying that all my grados before including rs1s have been flush. He just kept saying over and over that they are rs1s.

He would never say that it how they are going to be, just that is an rs1
