Tell me about it. Sometimes even trying to stick with your favorite brand can be unsettling. I was reading the Grado Fan thread today and it was like "The Itchy & Scratchy Show" over there.

i like cables, i've spent some dollars on cables for the lcd's, and considered having the gs1000 done,

but not the rs1i, it'll stay stock, gathering patina lol

Absolutely....too late for me to grow up now.

I love Grado cables....not a sign of microphonics on any Grado that I have ever owned.

That would be the only reason that I would ever change cables, more than likely....I am not saying that it is placebo...But.......

my somewhat limited experience says, for any differences other than build quality, connectivity, microphonics, those type things

number one, your equipment needs to be top notch throughout the chain, and law of diminishing returns kicks in big time

you can pay an awful lot and not get very much, if any audible improvement,

if you put a cable on and go "OMFG" its possible its placebo, of you have the hearing of a canine

Yeah, that is what I was getting at....the law of diminishing returns on cables...well it has to near the top of all laws of diminishing returns.....lol

I know some guys pay hundreds for the looks of a cable, alone.

There comes a point, where you say wait.....I am buying audio equipment, because it looks good.

I do however understand that there can be an improvement with certain cables on certain cans.

in certain systems, remember "synergy"

yup, the third is a woodied sr80i, joedoe did the cups, i bought it off him

to me, the gs1000 is more like a "regular" or typical headphone, while its a grado all the way

it's presentation isn't typical grado, large sound stage, imaging, more bass presence which lends

some less mid range presence as compared to the rs1i, but i just love it, i actually listen to it a little more

often than my rs1i

Hmmm....may have to place the GS1K on my radar. At times I feel that the RS1's midrange is a bit too much of a good thing, especially with horns.

I sure do love the look of those massive cups on the 1K. They are selling for $1,150 CDN here. OUCH!

Thank you Jay for your impression.

Nice set of Grados mate. Really wish I could afford the RS1's. Maybe later this year if everything goes my way.

I remember a while back, now this was probably 10 years ago or more when I was first ogling the RS1, that Grado supplied it with what appeared to be a quality wooden box made of either maple or mahogany(?) and the cost for the RS1 with the box was $1,000.00 at Bay Bloor Radio here in Toronto. So when I bought my RS1i just over a year ago I realized that they took away the box, replaced it with the 15' extension cable and the standard to mini adapter cable.

Now I thought that was a pretty good offering, as Grado reduced the price down to $765.00 which made the RS1i much more affordable than ever. And I received the extra cables to boot!

So my question is do you feel that the $235.00 extra was a good deal for the box? Was the quality of it worth that much extra?
