Actually they're about a year and a half old (got a GREAT deal), but based on the shape they're in, you'd never know. Enjoying some Holst right now - Pink Floyd and The Police had their turn earlier!

Yesterday I ordered some (G) cushions for my RS1i's, because when I received the broken GS1Ki's, I tried the (G's) from them on my RS's, and they were pretty nice sounding with them. I did own the (G's) at one time, for a very short time, but at that time I only owned the 80i's/325is's, and didn't like either with the (G's). They may be here today!

But I'm still going to order the GS1Ki's when they re-stock, to compare the RS's/GS's with the (G) cushions to see if I hear a big enough difference to justify buying the GS1Ki's, because the RS's sounded pretty dam nice with the (G's) IMO, and it would be nice to switch between the (L's) and the (G's) with the RS's, depending on my mood.

First impression time:

One word: Musical.

In the orchestral/wind band world, I've been taught (and now prefer) a pyramid-ic sound. Full bass for the foundation, balanced mids throughout their range, and a dash of sparkly treble for the peak. That's what the RS1s sound like to me. I've been A/Bing them to my 325s, SennGrados, and SR80s and none hit the balance like the RS1s. Even though it's quite well known, I'll certainly reiterate the idea that these let me just enjoy the music more than anything I've ever put on my ears. Are they neutrality kings? No. Will they rattle my brain with thumping bass? No. Do they singe my ear hairs with razor sharp detail? No. But, do they bring me closer to sitting in a jazz club then anything outside of hearing a saxophone and smelling cheap whiskey? Absolutely. Purely a joy with these guys.

I'm sure there is a better amp out there but I'm not intersted in looking. The LD feeds plenty of current to the Grados and with a 2107 opamp and Voskhod EF95 tubes, I'm PLENTY satisfied. Nice punchy bass, crystal clear mids, and extended but smooth treble.

Glad you are enjoying them.....great description. The more you listen, the harder it is to go back. Every time I put another headphone I am always thinking I wonder what this sounds like on my RS1....it's better every time except my GS-1000's:wink_face:

Any recommendations.

Too many to fully remember...all I can say is the best (by a good margin) was the MAD Ear+HD.

Well, there are many , if you are not satisfied....you can try another.

Like MacedonianHero, posted above...I bought the MAD EAR and have never looked back, I now NEVER analyze my music....I just enjoy it.

The detail, instrument separation, and the different layers to the music are just outstanding.......I will never get rid of my MAD & RS1i

I basically listen to Rock & Blues
