Dude, it's a no brainer. S/P is clearly the better sounding tube. Tighter bass and I'm hearing more detail in the higher end of same recordings that I tried last night with the Shu Guang 274B.

OK, I'm glad you hear the difference between the two. I happen too really like the S/P with the 6SN&WGTA's. I do need to spend more time with the other rectifier tubes I purchased, I didn't even put that many hours on the others yet, and I'm waiting for another one.

Someone's bidding on them!!

I wonder how much grado would charge to 'service' them and what state they'd come back in ...

AFAIK, grado charges a flat fee for the rs1(I think $100). With that said, I don't know if this kind of damage is covered by their service fee...

only way to find out is to send them an email.

How bout a little  Rock Candy Funk Party this Wednesday night!

So I've come into a few new (to me) cans lately and I've been holding em all up to my RS1s. Got the Beyer DT990 250ohms a few weeks ago and the Hifiman HE400s came in yesterday. To make  a long story short, while they both have their merits, the RS1 still stands proudly as king of the hill. Granted he costs much more than both of those combined. But nonetheless, the RS1 does the little things better. And by little things, I mean the details. Like the aural details: sliding on a bass string, alternating between the bell and bow of a ride cymbal, laughing during a drum solo, the list goes on.

The Grados don't have the bass depth of the HE400s, but then again to me, the stuff I'm listening to shouldn't have a lot of bass depth. I've never been to a fusion concert where the bass was so deep, I was being transported to another dimension. Nor do they have the texture of the 990s (although it's quite close).

All in all though, the RS1s just make the instruments and vocals sound like they do in real life. Which if you ask me, should be the ultimate goal of any headphone manufacturer. I don't put on headphones to hear the headphones. I put em on to hear the music.

Congrats on getting some Grado's. How do you like the HD's sound signature as a compliment to your new RS1i's?

My Chromebook is refusing to quote MickeyVee! Sorry, but thanks to you both. I'm leaving the RS1i to burn in for a good few hours, then I'll listen. I got into this mess thanks to a company who bundled the SR-60i (free, grati$, and for nothing) with a Meridian Explorer. Despite being in a relationship with Sennheiser (650/800) and divorced but still cohabiting with the Q701, I fell in love. I have an Audiolab M-DAC (meh) - Lyr setup upstairs and a Schiit Gungnir (star quality) - Lehmann Linear SE (turns all headphones into gold) downstairs setup. The music will flow, the truth will be told... I love this thread.
