New iPod Touch, Nano, and Classic released

Just saw the release stuff, and the new stuff they jammed into the Touch and Nano are not surprising, even a bit boring (to say the least). What's interesting, though, is that they have FM radio and video camera on the Nano, but not the higher-end Touch. Any thoughts to that?

EDIT: Totally forgot the classic, I'd assume we'll see it for another generation before flash memory gets to the point where they'll just axe it (as it was with the Zune)?

I saw it all on Engadget, and like I said on Facebook: I had a feeling that Apple was running out of ideas for their iPods, and today proves that. They need to focus on sound quality by now, not gimmicks like cameras.

yep.

I'm not even sure if you can call the new touch a refresh, certainly not something that warrants it as a "third generation" designation. As one commenter on engadget has said, I think they should have just called it the 2GS and called it a day.

And even then, the 3GS got a compass.

I wonder if the 32/64gb ipod touches now share the same sq as the iphone 3gs.

Very underwhelming

I am thinking now Sony X1000 or Zune HD just to experience a different flavour of SQ

I bought the 4G Nano last year as a make-weight, but 64GB Touch is a tad too expensive for me so I prefer to wait some more for price drops

As it stands, I might buy the Zune HD to see how it fares against the current 2G Touch, seeing as the fact that the 2G and 3G are so similar right now.

all I wanted was more flash in the nano.

That's another thing: how much space is the video camera going to use up? There is potential that the recording is going to eat up a lot of memory, to the point where 16 GB (the max size for nanos) is not going to be enough, especially with music and videos uploaded to the device already. Combine the fact that there's no wifi on it, there's only one way to upload the stuff, and only then can you delete the video to make more space. At least for the camera on the Touch, you could have uploaded the video online with wifi, then delete the stuff, then shoot again. Don't need to specifically go to your computer to upload your videos.

I don't know what the hell where they thinking when they put the camera on the nano and not the touch!this is supposed to be their top of the line ipod and it has bigger high res. Screen and bigger capacity and wifi which will enable any video captured to be directly tagged to facebook or twitter. As you guys said they are out of thoughts.

well the video is only a vga video camera, so the footage shouldn't take up much space.

Looking at the new Clip because the nano didn't get upgraded... noticed it doesn't play AAC. Isn't AAC the format itunes uses?

Good question Rob N, I hope we get some details. If the battery life is also better than claimed it also might help out a bit. Still, so disheartening,......
