The most famous / iconic Cover Art Ever? - Page 2

Nirvana: Nevermind pretty much was the last important cover art in history.

It ushered in the last evolution of really good rock music, and it happened well before cover art was reduced to thumbnails on your iPod. Besides, it's a striking image.

Dark Side of the Moon and Abbey Road.

I swear that I posted this before but can't think of a reason why it was deleted, so I am reposting.

I voted Abbey Road because it's probably the most famous, but my favorite is:

Depends on what criteria you're using to define "iconic".

I'd expect most people to be able to identify *both* name and album title of "Abbey Road," "Nevermind," and "Sgt Pepper" (although less so for Sgt Pepper).

For "Dark Side of the Moon," I think a similar number of people can say "yes, I've seen that cover before," but I'd expect far fewer to be able to tell you the artist.

Based on frequency of cultural reference/imitation/etc. though, I think "Abbey Road" is hands down the most iconic album cover.

At what year of birth does that become not true ("most people"), do you think? 1985? And at that point, what albums do become iconic under your definition?

Abbey Road and DSOTM are the two most people, of any age and country, would recognise on the spot...i voted for Dark Side.

Can't say I'm a diehard fan, but this Dylan cover is rather iconic ...
