Just not that moved by Clapton...? - Page 2

An old friend a few years back introduced me to Clapton, The Doors, and Hedrix, to name a few, and that was what finally dragged me out of what 99% of my friends still listen to: loud, generic, obscene pop/electronica/hip-hop/rap.

While I do agree that there are many other great guitarists out there, Eric Clapton's name is probably the most recognized to the masses, in the same way that the iPod is now the representative of what an "MP3 player" is.

Yes, I've got friends who stated that they 'lurve Eric Clapton'. When I ask them what songs they particularly like, it's "Tears in Heaven" or occasionally "Wonderful Tonight". Not that those songs are bad though. Similar to those who know Zep only by Stairway.

I'm sure that they love pop, too.

Love his music just to chill with. Nothing intimate about his music IMO

Try "Hello Old Friend", "No Reason to Cry", "Let It Grow", "Bellbottom Blues" or "Wonderful Tonight". I have a feeling you won't like them anyway, but they're good Clapton. No guitar pyrotechnics, just good, laid-back tunes.

Remember, when "Clapton is God" started showing up on the Emerald Isle, rock guitar was still being defined, so to speak. The earlier psychedelic stuff like "White Room", "Tales of Brave Ulysses", and "Sunshine of Your Love" are some of the big examples from Cream era. Don't underestimate how big of a deal "Sunshine of Your Love" was when it was new. Hendrix covered it. My favorite Cream was "Badge".

I think lots of people find Clapton a little unexciting. Truth is, I don't listem to Clapton much. Comparing Clapton to Johnny Winter is kind of difficult. They're different animals. The album "Still Alive and Well" is my favorite. He was smokin'!

I'd say that his enshrinement in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (the only triple inductee for his work with The Yardbirds, Cream, and his solo recordings) is well deserved.

Right on. This thread is getting kind of ridiculous.

You mean like Duane Allman, Bob Dylan, The Band, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle, Jim Gordon, George Harrison, Pete Townshend, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Neil Young?

Clapton bores me. That doesn't mean I dislike him, but his CDs always makes me want to more effort, energy, something. Knofler does understatement better for my taste and rocks harder.
