), but I dunno…maybe it's just that I'm an unreconstructed geezer, but I think the original LPs sound a bit more dynamic. Andy Hummel's bass seems so much more present in the mix. I usually keep my receiver's tone controls turned off, but with the box I found myself adding/adjusting the bass. I have the UK two-fer pressing with the gatefold cover; I'd forgotten that it was a reissue by the Memphis soul label Stax, not Ardent. It made me think about this passage in the box set's booklet:
