UK Meet (UPDATED!) - Saturday November 7th 2009 - Page 6

Hi

I will be bringing the wife! I will ask her tonight after work if shes willing to do the administration i.e name stickers etc or what ever is decided for the day. I will take her credit card off her to stop her wandering off on any retail therapy Maybe we need to advertise the fact that only pre-named people can attend on the 'meet' topic/first posting link, then everyone can be checked off.

In 2007 the DIYaudio meet at chesterfield was fine security wise and because it was over 2 days they even had a guy as security stay overnight (as the meet was in a small hall/old church building).

There has been no interest via DIYaudio so far anyway but had a reply to the post I put on hi-fi wigwam.

Maybe it would just need someone sat at a table in the door entrance and you get a ticket/stamp as you come in or out of the building. Plus if you had a name/checklist of members head-fi names and their real names, it would be a bit more obvious if someone was to try get in who wasn't meant to be there.

The wifes agreed to do the door stuff!

Apart from a reply in the email

Fantastic, what a marvellous lady you have there. The thought of going anywhere near a geek meet like this would have my wife running for the hills .

I'm thinking that pre-registration would be a good idea, and then people could be "checked in" on the day. How do people feel about attendees who are not Head-Fi members (or their friends)? Do you think pre-registration is enough to alleviate concerns there?

I'm sure we could all keep an eye on our neighbours gear/table.Pre registration isn't a bad idea at all,i don't mind wearing a big dayglow star with my name on it

I echo this, I also like the idea of closing the doors for the evening.

Hi,

Sounds great. I'd like to come along too. I'll keep an eye on the thread for registration details (think thats a good idea). I have a Beresford 7520 DAC and K701s which I'm happy to bring if its not duplication...

A mate of mine is really keen to come too. He's not registered on HeadFi yet. Is that a requirement?

Hi Ade, welcome. Yes, I think we can now put a stake in the ground and ask that anyone who wishes to attend be registered on Head-Fi, and post their intention to attend on this thread. I'll update the first post accordingly.

Excellent, welcome!

I asked the wife if she wanted to attend and she declined.

She reminded herself that she was really kewl at school but wondered how she married such a geek. Being a geek pays for the mortgage, holidays and headphone gear!

Geeks, see you all soon!.

Hi all,

Now we have decent numbers intending to come along, a couple of things I was thinking about:

1) Power sockets. Can the hotel tell us how many power sockets are in the main room since we obviously need enough to cater for our needs??? (EDIT - noticed pedalhead mentions he will ask about this end of September).

2) Power blocks/adapters. I will bring my LAT AC2 4-way for my gear but I guess others will need to bring theirs as well unless the hotel can supply us.

3) Table space for gear. The 2007 meet had about 25 people and the main table got pretty crowded with gear IIRC. There were also some side tables but they got filled up as well. Duggeh had his stuff set-up in a second room, which sounds to me like the tea/coffee room pedalhead mentions. The main room capacity is quoted as 90 and is indeed spacious, however we might have an issue of insufficient table space (and sockets) with substantially higher numbers attending.

Just some thoughts.

Cheers.

Thanks Mark, yes power & space are definitely items to be sorted. As much as possible, I'm thinking tables around the outside of the room would be best, but it's difficult to visualise it until I've actually visited (at the end of the month). As you say, I suspect those who can should bring power blocks...I certainly intend to bring my 8-socket block, and I'll be using up all 8! Beyond that, I'll find out what else we might need to bring after I've visited the hotel. If need be, I'm happy to bring along a couple of extension reels & additional power blocks if necessary as I'll be coming up by car so space isn't a problem.

Pedalhead.

I think the ruling should be - each person expect one 3 pin socket, then provide the means to power however many devices they bring. Some duck tape to hold down the cable would be good.

I like the 'registered attendees' only route. I have faith that head-fi members would be honour each others equipment but our goal is that nobody loses anything or regrets bringing their kit along.

I'm staying over the Saturday night, but if anyone wants a lift on my Huntingdon, A14, M6 to Manchester route on Sat am, returning Sun am, let me know.

Regards

Sceptre
