Hi guys. Considering the increase in numbers, and potential for non Head-Fi members attending, I think we might want to start thinking about the security aspects of the meet, particularly as many of us will be bringing quite an investment in kit.
My initial expectation was that we'd have a fairly small number of people so everyone would be recognisable once we'd all met. That would mean we could move around the room with relative confidence that our kit would be safe & in good hands, and whilst I'd personally always keep one eye on my stuff, I wouldn't want to spend the whole day babysitting it at the expense of hearing anything else.
Obviously, with the potential for more people coming & going, this might not be so straightforward. Now, there's always the chap on the table next to you, with whom you can take "shifts" at mingling around the room I suppose, and maybe that's the solution. Perhaps we need to go further though.
Pete & I have briefly discussed some possible ideas. I'm really just throwing these out there for wider discussion. Maybe one or two of these ideas make sense, maybe none of it is necessary & we should just take it as it comes, but I'd be really interested in people's opinions on how to make this as enjoyable & worthwhile, and secure, as possible for everyone.
-- Checking people into the meet on first arrival, maybe even with a sticker/lanyard with their forum & real name.
-- We could close the doors at 5 or 6pm to non-exhibitors (or non Head-Fi members) so those who've been semi-tied to their tables all day could mingle in confidence in the evening.
-- Entrance for pre-registered people only
-- Limit attendees to Head-Fi members only (and no 0-day signups)
Obviously, the less admin crap I/we have to deal with on the day, the better, and I'm not sure if a permanent (rotating) "table at the door" presence is realistic or necessary, but I'd appreciate your views and further suggestions. Cheers. Mark.
