Upgrade from Senn 580 to 600?

I'm sure this has been covered before (but I sure can't find it).
I am wondering if it's worthwhile to upgrade from the 580's I have now, to the 600's?
I'm using the Earmax Pro for an amp.
Specifically I'm looking for more bass and better resolution, will the 600 be an improvement?

The 600 is not that radically different than the 580. It sounds like you simply want a different sounding headphone. More bass than the 580? How about the Koss KSC-35? More resolution? Look into Grado, though I'm not sure if the Grado line would meet your bass requirements. Maybe the higher-end Beyers are what you're seeking?

more bass? you want more bass than the HD580? well...you could always try the 770 I guess...

Funny... the first reply I typed looked remarkably like this, but I deleted it and typed the response shown above. I've never felt like the 580s lacked bass -- but whatever floats his boat...

you want more bass, get a Beyer DT770. it got enough bass for anyone. want even more? Sony V900 I'd guess niether wil get you more resolution tho.

Not really a different sounding headphone, just a bit better. I've always had Sennheisers, and I am simply wondering what an upgrade to the 600 will get me.

I have a pair of KSC-35's that I bought my son. Great sounding headphone for the money but no where near the quality of the Sennheiser. The Earmax does not seem to like them either, much clipping in the bass.

Tried a Grado 225, couldn't stand them.

Beyer? Maybe. Never heard those.

I asked a similar question a while back and the main responses I got were beyer 770 or 931 or sony cd3000 or ety er4.

To answer the original question, the 600 IS an improvement over the 580, and the improvement will be quite audible using a good source into a good amp (and everything I've read indicates that the Earmax Pro is a good amp).

How dramatic is the improvement? Hard to say. These are very similar cans, with very similar sounds. The 600 seems to have a little more resolution, go a little deeper... but all those little things add up. Even so, most of the sound of the 600 is present in the 580.

IMO, if you like the sound of the Sennheisers and want the best possible presentation of that sound, the 600 is a worthwhile upgrade (although you might want to consider getting a Clou replacement cable for the 580 first. If you still want to upgrade your headphone, it will also work with the 600).

If you're looking for something that sounds dramatically different than the 580, you want a different brand of headphone.

the 600 doesn't have that much more difference of sound as eveyone had mentioned

So I wouldn't think that it would be in your best intrest to purchase anther pair of a simular headphone

I think if you changed your source a bit like your AMP to a different kind of headphone amp, you will find all the suble differences that you may find to be better...

Or if you do want differenct headphones with unique characteristics
get your self some Grado 325 and up, or Beyer 770's, Akg 501-1000, or Sony 3000

I mean your Sennheiser is already in the same class as those cans, that I would suggest trying out something in it's class
and see what you would find your taste if you are getting tired of the 580

btw-- I got the rs-2's because I liked the sound
my second choice would be the sony mdr-cd3000

I was told that the 580s and 600s have the same drivers, but the 650s are a step up, especially in the bass department; you may want to skip the 600s and check out the 650s.

I thin that buying the 600 would be a waste of money, these headphones are so alike most people cant tell a difference in sound. Get a hd650 cable and grills and your 580 will be nearly a clone of the stock 600.
Now if you want alternatives that can be considered upgrades to the 580 you could try the beyer 880 or 990, not pro version of course. or some of the higher end audio technica.

the 580 and 600 are the same except for metal grills on the 600. a slight (very very slight) detail improvement. a waste of cash. the 650 is where u want to go

I think the 600s are totally worth it, as they look the best to me with the carbon fiber, sound great with the right amp and cables,
and can be found for as little as $SOLD (shameless plug, have two pairs)

P.S. warranty receipt included is for $349

P.P.S. the 580s are discontinued anyways

Check out the date of the first post!

My guess is that he's moved on from this thread. I hope he's not waiting for it to give more answers:P

Also, the HD650 wasn't released until late 2003 I think:P
