I would personally go with one super tweeter instead of two, and put four in the lows instead.(Two lows, and two low low-mids) distortion for lows is at a much higher chance compared to 20kHz highs. One super tweeter would be more than enough.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

lmao. these new crazy designs are super over kill...

i think i will still prefer the sound coming out from my se530.. so no modification done to it.

no they aren't, just trying to perfect the whole frequency spectrum

i like the imperfect. nothing is perfect anyway.

Lmao so what now, take the 8 driver one instead? haha

Just received this from UM:
Quote:
we can add extar dual super high drivers on six custom.,the vocal is more forwards and detailed. (sjh:compared to the 6 drivers upgrade)
it cost about usd700(without shipping and cables).
The 6 drivers upgrade costs $383 without cable and shipping. So for 8 drivers you pay $317 more compared to 6 drivers. That is almost twice as much. Believe me it still is tempting but I don't know if I can justify the price bump because nobody has heard it yet.
What do you guys think? (I don't know if I want you to talk me out of it or push me through )

Wait what?! What about your small ears?
There's no point to go over 6 drivers 3way IMO.
You may put 1 TWFK instead of 5 (10 drivers) as well. It'll sound even better with one.
If you know how crossover works imagine spectrum of each driver with 6 way desing...

It was juuuust a joke the farthest i would go is actually 12 drivers. But instead of 6-way, it'd just be either 3-way or 4-way. If it was 3-way i'd go no more than 8 drivers, and if 4-way then i'd go 10 drivers.

My best design in terms of thinking is actually a seven driver design. It's dual high, dual mid, and dual low-mid/high lows, then one 2015 finishing off the rest of the lows.

Received this answer from the question if they have already tested 8 drivers:

In fact,we have tested 8 drivers in thailand and others friends.the feedbacks are excellent.
the sound will deserve people pay.

lol it is most definitely excellent, only thing is, is the payment from 6 driver to 8 is twice as much... and im not sure it can be justified

This drivers rat race will end up soon (probably with lack of space inside a shell lol) but after all there will be a down trend - who will make earphones with less drivers sounding better than these with higher amout of drivers. I can't wait to see a company advertising "your only-one-driver-13pro" or something like that. Too much drivers plus too much of crossovers and and you'll have really sh*ty sound.

Oh and btw. the first example of this down trend is Yashima Electric (Grado GR8 and Ortofon e-Q7).
Notice that all companies use the same bunch of drivers (some a bit tweaked or in differend configs) but they don't really develope a new driver - made to meet high end audio requirements.

its never ending tbh...

How would someone go about embarking on a project like this?

If it's your favorite design, please enlighten us with pictures and methodologies, and of course the price

Or maybe it's "patent pending", because you want to sell it.

Or maybe you already have posted the info and I can't find it

If you are willing to share, then directions to that info please, as it's easy to lose one's way at Head-fi sometimes

Haven't put it into making yet. Just a thought. SInce 6 driver, 3-way is extremely extremely good already. Why not just shift everything up a bit, and add a fourth-way in the deepest deepest lows handled by a powerful low-end driver.
