Unique Melody Remold Appreciation and Impressions Thread - Page 56

Why would you want to do that, the um3x is a great universal iem, it shares the same drivers as the es3x which is regarded as the no. 2 iem around after the jh|13 (correct me if I'm wrong). I personally wanted the um3x instead of the tf10 but no one wanted to trade my hd650 for one at the time. SO you'd get a pretty awesome custom for $120(new price methinks) instead of having to pay more to add drivers to fill in where the original was flawed.<enter TF10 fanboy rant's here>
But on the contrary it would be awesome to put together two sets of um3x's and then make a um6x custom.

Btw GW on reading all the pages - I did that too before I bought mine xD, - It helped me decide against artwork lol.

The ES3X is good, but it doesn't stand a chance to my Se6X3 or TF18. They're just in a different league. But to add drivers to the UM3X would be boring. if you wanted to times the driver exactly by two, you would have 2 TWFK and 2 Ci. The TWFK isn't the best mid-range driver out there.

But the SE6X0 sounds totally different from the SE530? That totally defeats the purpose in remolding them. At least that is how i feel.

It doesn't sound totally different from the Se530. If you read the impressions i posted on "home-made iems" which a link is posted. You would know that the magical mid-range is still there. Just now, the highs and lows are improved while the soundstage is wider, and everything is faster and more accurate. Still a very similar sound, just far superior.

But isn't better highs, lows and soundstage mean that the sound sig is actually different?

I hate the sparkling highs. So am not sure whether to get the upgrade ornot.

Thanks for the reply! Yup, I know that Um3x is a very decent earphone and still loving it after three months. But reading the thread and the review that MaoDi made about the six drivers Tf 10 pro( a.k.a Tf18 pro) and Shure Se530 really intrigues me.

BTW thank you MaoDi for clarifying. It's not just adding but reshelling, adding and constructing a new earphone. I'm hoping you will give us news if UM is interested in doing a Um6x project.

Nope, it's not a different sound signature. Everything is just superior. It's like having a little lion, and a big lion with a huge mane and scary eyes. Both are still lions.

D: am i on the wrong path now? just sent my se530 for remolding. is it possible to send it back for upgrade?

Haha. Where are you getting it remolded? Simply getting a dual bore design will increase clarity. Fisher and UM will gladly do it. Just tell them to put a 680ohm white filter in the high freq soundbore.

UM. lol. Looks like sam is not online now. Can't get to contact him.

MaoDi, you running these out of a portable amp? And if so, what are you using? The reason why I am asking is that I've got the pico slim portable amp on order to drive my Shure 530s ... and then for a later spring project and send the Shure 530s to UM have custom molds and drivers added. Your thoughts, actually anyone's thoughts for that matter?

I run them out of a lot of stuff. the best so far though is my desktop amp. I also used my Little Dot MKI+, which is also very good. I'm sure the Pico Slim is a much better alternative.

Just email them LionPlushie - my emails are usually replyed within hours

Maodi , apparently they will use tfwk drivers instead of your ue700 ones, how will that affect that sound? How are the mids of the tf18 compared to the Mage?
I have a question for anyone currently using a TF10 with added drivers - do the additional drivers increase detail at all? I went from the Re0 to the TF10 and missed detail across the mids and high's - as well as the smooth mids. So I bought someone else's TF10+mid driver - which should take care of the mid deficiency. But will these still fall short of the Re0 level of detail? I'm actually going to get them back from reshelling this weekend, and would like to know what to expect.

By the way - I don't think the quality gap is as great between Fisher Hearing and Unique Melody anymore. In particular - there's a pair of clear ones on the Fisher thread that most people think are stunning, me included.
