Unique Melody Remold Appreciation and Impressions Thread - Page 96

I'll find out soon mate. I don't mind though - they're for my nephew and I'm just glad he's got such a quality product - $99USD for the TF-10 which I intended to use for myself... they burst... then I send them away and now my nephew has a beautiful custom product that you'd probably pay twice the price for to get that kind of quality elsewhere. I've seen Freqs and JH13 Pros in acrylic, and the build quality of the UM shell is in a completely different league.

i've decided that it's be a shame to hide the quad drivers in an opaque shell, so have asked sam if they'll do them in a translucent white with solid white faceplate...here's hoping

EDIT: shells are already being made, so no translucent for me. ah well, it's the sound quality that matters

wish i could decide what to go for

I decided right away on the Tf11 re-mold + mid-driver, but I keep changing my mind on the color. I have already driven UM nuts (I hope not) by replacing the order form a few times. I have my mind made up now, but I have to wait until they get my replacement impressions with a new order form that I will replace one last time by e-mail... the good news is if they get mixed up I will probably be happy with any of the color schemes I've already submitted. But I really hope I can make one last change without them getting mixed up or too mad at me.

I'm usually not quite this indecisive but it's my first custom and I'm excited, especially about these last mock-ups that I did "low-tech" with a printer, scissors and a camera

Simple, should match my U2 iMod

As I've mentioned before - I bought my TF10 quads second hand. As you can see from some of the other transparent pictures on this thread, the wires to the cable sockets were replaced with green and yellow wire. Does anyone know which of these two colors is ground?

I want to make sure that when I'm connecting cables - I'm correctly matching the ground.

when i asked craig at whiplash he said that the blue / red dots on the shells would generally go above the signal wire.

Doh, I'd gotten my customs reshelled by Fisher and no longer have the dots. I only have the two wire colors to go by - and am assuming green is for ground. Hopefully someone knows for sure.

i'll let you know when mine arrive but mine are going to be opaque so won't be able to see the wires

Doh, that won't help. Thanks anyway! I just want through 60 pages of this thread looking at the pictures. In most of the clear ones I can see the green wire towards the bottom and the yellow wire on top (like mine). But I can't see the dots mentioned to determine which slot is carrying the signal.

At least you can tell me if the dot is on the slot towards the bottom (when worn). Or hopefully someone that owns a pair of clear UM customs can confirm which wire is signal - and which is ground.

hi there, i'm on my way to having my e500's uprgaded to 6 drivers. i just needed some clarification on the order form.

1. do the "custom sockets" refer to the westone and UE customs with the deep sockets? i would have wanted mine deep like the westone customs for better seal.

2. UM wrote me and said they have "UM cables" that they say are better than the es3 and westone cables. so do you guys think i should pick the UM cables?

3. and if i do pick UM cables, will they automatically fit the custom "deep" sockets?

sorry, these are my first customs and i'm really not that familiar with the different sockets that wesotne and UE use. just wanted to make shure i get my order out right.

thanks in advance! ;D

1. Yes, custom sockets fit Westone and UE custom cables.

2. I would stick with the Westone cable. I doubt there could be a huge difference in terms of sound, but build quality will certainly differ and Westone/UE cables are much better made than handmade cables (at least from my experience).

3. Yes, they will fit universal sockets.

i'll post some picture later or when i have the chance but, my westone cable turned almost all green in about a month or two. sure it doesn't change the sound, i think, but that doesn't look very nice.

all silver/clear cables will turn green after awhile.
