Why can't I lower my Ipod's volume? - Page 2

Exactly. The newer ipods are attractive because they have almost no hiss. This is unheard of when it comes to portable players. My UM2 requires the volume to be on literally ZERO and it's still too loud. Extremely disappointing.

What a great product the iPod is! You can't mute it, no matter how hard you try! Well done! My stupid SONY just goes quite every time I get the volume to zero. I don't get these guys, what's the point? Why would you need to listen at zero volume? And yes, zero hiss is unheard on a portable device... may be that is why I never heard any hiss on my SONY either.

well, since we are back at it, here is my answer: i think it has to do with the output chipset apple have chosen. a few of my portable amps which are designed around a certain chipset also don't turn fully off, though the volume pot is lowered to zero.
