s9 vs. d2+ with a phone

I think this is not your usual s9 vs. d2+ thread.

But I need your recommendation..

well, im looking for a player, and now im down to d2+ vs s9.. im gonna use it with senn cx 500 + fiio e5

btw, what makes this different from others? i got nokia 5800 XM (so what? you guys may think) my phone can play vids, its got decent(large) screen (but not sure of the quality against the s9, but i think it is definitely better than d2+).. BTW, it needs hell of conversions to play movies.. and it has expandable memory too.. but up to 16 gb only..

going back to the point..

if i want better sound quality(for me more bass = better sound quality, cause i just love bass).. which should i choose?

about the movies, that is where my phone goes in, sure, you guys will tell me s9 is better than d2+ when playing videos right?

but the question in my head now is... i can play movies in my phone, its got large screen, i can withstand converting videos, (i can sleep while my pc is turned on converting them..) but what about the quality?? is it worth the price getting the s9 for its video quality? or get the d2+ if i just want the music and let the phone do the movies..

im sure you guys can help me..

BTW, regarding sound quality, i read so many of the d2/d2+ vs s9 thread, and some of them are fuzzing me like this:

d2/d2+ has better SPL(sound pressure level) than s9
d2/d2+ has higher max volume than the s9
s9 has viva, d2+ doesn't have it
d2/d2+ has bass roll off

these stuffs confuse me..

i really need your help..

Both the D2+ and the S9 will make you bass happy as the custom EQ settings is more sophisticated than what is offered on your Nokia 5800 XM. The S9 however lets you customize the 5 bands by further choosing what frequencies is adjusted, reverb can be added, and offers a few more custom pre-configured EQ settings. You can blast the bass until your ears hurt.

Neither will have any trouble driving your Senn CX500 IEP. If you're going to be using a E5 with it, the 40 max volume on the S9 won't matter as much as the amp will be able to drive higher ohm resistant phones if the S9's built-in amp doesn't.

Both players offer better battery life (D2+ 50 hrs. music/10 hrs. video; S9 55 hrs. music/11 hrs. video) versus the 35 hrs. of music you get with your 5800. The S9 is the better choice for videos since most AVIs won't have to be converted in order to play on the S9. The D2 won't play anything larger than 320 x 240, so conversion will be needed usually.

Lastly, the D2+ comes with up to 16 GBs of internal storage and can be expanded using a SDHC card (max size supported is 32 GBs). The S9's largest storage is 30.5 GBs for the 32 GB model. The AMOLED screen on the S9 is probably more brilliant than the LCD screen on your 5800.

I'd recommend the S9 over the D2+ unless music is more important to you than videos are (you seem like a video person). The limited storage won't really be noticed that much. The custom UIs available for the S9 are far better than those for the D2+ and you have a capacitive touchscreen versus a resistive touchscreen. The screen will just dazzle you and then you'll wish every other LCD screen in the house used OLEDs. The larger screen is just better than the smaller one on the D2+ for those 16:9/widescreen videos.

hmm.. i just thought that mobile phones now are having amoled screens too.. not that i hate s9(im just price concious), and BTW, im not video lover, but i love rock, rap and hiphop music.. my only requirement on an mp3 player is long life, durable, and gives the bass hell on my ears..

my sister said that she believes that more phones will be released with amoled, actually, her phone is 2.7 amoled, which is great.. i saw on a famous mobile phone site that omnia 2 has 3.7 inch amoled screen.. so i think it would be better if i get d2+ and then upgrade my 5800 to something better if i have money, at least it would be s9 w/ expandable memory..

please state if you have better points for me to get s9.. don't get me wrong pls.. im not saying i hate s9, i just want the best value for my money.. since i cannot personally see, hold ant touch these players..

Save you money till after X-mas,all new cool gadets whit amoled screens will be pushed at costumers ..

Budget wise its a smart thing to to,makes your money last a little longer and may give you more options whit new models.?
owning the standard D2 I kind of regret not getting the Amp3 just for music, but I only care for music :P

good luck in choosing

x-cuse my bad english spelling, some words are just harder :P

How many steps does the volume control of the 5800 have? I played with one, and I think it was ONLY 10 steps. I believe the S9 and D2 both have a 40-step volume control. The software and user interface is just not as good as dedicated players.

Music and movie playback on a phone is still not as good as they are on a good mp3 player. I spent $900+ US on a Sony Ericsson Xperia, and I ran into all kinds of problems. The volume control on the Windows Mobile system is complex, you have to adjust 2 places. It's supposed to be able to play video, but it can't. The only popular format it can play, after a lot of optimization, is small .FLV videos on a third-party software. The FM radio is too loud, unusable unless you hack the software. You need to buy your own software if you're serious about music. You might think Windows Media Player is good for streaming internet radio, but it's not. The Omnia 2 also uses Windows Mobile, so I wouldn't recommend it for music and video. Even when there's no problem, the battery of your phone will run out very quickly.

And don't believe any claims of sound quality unless you hear one yourself. This is especially true when it comes to bass.

Combining everything you need into one device, is still only a romantic notion in the year 2009. It's just advertising, and from personal experience, I don't think it's worth believing in. If you want to save money, buy an inexpensive mp3 player. I'm fed up with all the phone makers releasing new features that are just not good enough, and I'm also kinda fed up with everyone believing them.

Most phones don't have a good enough audio player, they're often difficult to operate. If you just want a random 1-2 hour of music going to work/back from work, fine, but don't dream about putting 1000, 2000 songs onto a phone. Most phones are still not designed for serious music lovers. The only exception to this rule is the iPhone - the software is really very well done - but then you'll find the battery doesn't last long enough.
