Hi,

Anyone tried the new Sophia Electric 6SN7 yet?

Thanks,

Paul

seems rebranded as Full Music 6SN7 tubes - they sell for $125 a pair on ebay.

Also, shuguang makes brass base 6SN7's. would not be surprised if it is the real manufacturer.

Are those Shuguang 6SN7s any good? They are truly beautiful! I've always had a weakness for globe tubes. An upcoming preamp build needs one 6SN7 - I'd love to put one of those up top!

Doesn't Eddie Current use one of those Shuguang globes in his Balancing Act? If so that's a pretty good endorsement

I'm also very interested in how these 6sn7s sound...

I believe that Skylab has recently purchased one for his Darkvoice 336se, but was waiting for burn-in because the tube had a hum... a lot of tubes hum in the 336 series, most just need time to break-in, so I'm sure the hum is from the amp and not the tube... but he did indicate that it hadn't gone away yet.

Skylab any initial impressions yet? Is the hum still there?

I can't remember my source, but I seem to remember reading that there are issues with the globe 6SN7's. Either lot's of microphonics or unreliability. Either way, there's probably a reason they are not very popular.

Cosensus on these on the tube forums is that they basically suck. For a small fraction of the cost, there are plenty of '50s NOS Sylvania around. Don't waste your money.

I have the Sophia 6SL7's. Though I bought them for my WES (which I should be getting in ~6 weeks), I did try them out in my Little Dot MK VI.

I am still in the process of writing out a full review, but I can tell you this: WORTH EVERY PENNY. My primary tubes for the MK VI were Mullard ECC35's, so understand the level to which I am rating these beauties

In short: identical behavior to the mullards in terms of frequency response and warmth, though slightly more detailed, yet lacking that special sweetness. Very musical, very beautiful.

edit: i know these arent exactly the same as the 6SN7's, but I hope this is a testament to their quality

for a smaller fraction of the cost of a pair of these, one can get the 7n7 which is
on par with some of the best 40's 6sn7...

I disagree with this generalization. I have tried almost every flavor of 6SN7. Not one is best in every tube amp I've tried.

TS 6SN7GT is best for my SP, Sylvania 6SN7GT for my DV336, Ken Rad on the DV337 and so on.....

Same goes when I tried 7N7's, 6F8G's, 6CG7's..... all variants of the 6SN7. none stands out across the board.

I got a pair of the Sophia 6SN7's...and they were good...but not really worth the money, IMO. No better than a typical pair of NOS Sylvanias, which are cheaper.
