Hi,

My user name is shawn_low on ebay.

I am new to HF and recently bought a Grado GS1000i from fellow member Klonk (http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f10/gr...-1000i-441118/)

This thread is to kickstart what I hope is a beautiful relationship with HF and fellow members.

Welcome! I am insanely envious of your purchase. But I like your resolute way of doing things. Most people hang around here for a while, and work their way up the chain before they buy something that high-end. There is something to be said for just cutting to the chase.

I'd also like to point out that an oft-repeated phrase around these parts is "sorry about your wallet."

Thanks! I was actually looking at SR325i, MS2i and even the RS1 before I figured that I'd be 'upgrading' in no time so I took the plunge and went the 'full monty' as they say.

Now to shell out for a good amp/DAC to match. I have an entry-level one (Yulong UA188). Any recommendations appreciated!

Also gotta start ripping all those CDs too.

But my wallet is feeling sorry because I couldn't resist picking up a HF1 I saw posted earlier today! Gulp.

There are others here who can be of more help than me when it comes to amp recommendations. You might want to do a search; there are several great threads with a ton of useful info.

This one is Skylab's exhaustive (to put it mildly) roundup of his portable amp reviews.

HeadphoneAddict has a thread focusing on the Travagans amps which seem to be very well regarded around here.

These are just the two that come to mind; they will get you started. There are many, many other reviews on the site, many of them vey well done and very informative.

As for CD ripping, Exact Audio Copy is very popular with Head-fiers. I've been using it, and it is indeed very good. It's very powerful, but not especially user friendly. It will give you perfect rips, to pretty much any major format (wav, flac, mp3, ogg, etc) but it does present something of a learning curve. I've only been working with it for a short time, and I've been getting really superior-sounding results, but there is a lot I still don't know about its vast capabilties.

Oh, and it's free. I downloaded it from CNET's Download.com.

I picked up an amp/DAC combo. It's a Chiense-made one. Yulong UA188. Not much info in English but I saw some forums in Chinese that rated it quite well!

Sold Shawn my Jaycar SCHA. The package arrived quite beat-up and so there was some loose internal connectors but luckily everything's fixed and there's no other damage. Shawn was very helpful with posting pics etc. and communicative, a pleasure to deal with! Thanks again!

bought a Penguin Caffeine Ultra and a Fiio E5 from Shawn

he was great to deal with, very responsive, and he shipped very fast from Australia.
