I think Glenn Hughes is the best of the bunch. He has a real artistic streak with diversity that you don't find often in hard rock or metal musicians.

Otherwise I rate Dio much higher than Ozzy. Ozzy is really not my thing, except when powered by Jake E. Lee.

Actually I rate Dio very high. I just rate Glenn a tad higher.

Brothers and Sisters, no one claims that Ozzy had a better voice than Dio.

To the contrary Dio has always been a much better singer than Ozzy.
Very politely: Ozzy was never considered to be a gifted singer.
It is quite possible that I took that phrase from the All Music Guide.
(I hope that Sharon will not sue me for that.)

But we're talking here about Ozzy in the context of Black Sabbath.



Think about The Beatles carrying on with, say Dio or someone else.
Obviously this comparison is not quite fair.

I personally think that Ozzy gets too much hate and not enough credit from many metal fans. He is no Halford or Dickinson, he may not have the best range in metal. And his vocals can be inconsistent at times, especially live. But his ability to set the atmosphere of his songs is unmatchable. And he's highly versatile and can do a huge variety of songs well.

Dio, by comparison, comes off as being a Dickinson wannabe at times, it's clear that the type of songs he can do is really limited. In particular, it's clear that he can't do Doom Metal, he does a lot of the Ozzy era Sabbath songs as if he's singing an Iron Maiden song. So while he's a more consistent and a more talented vocalist than Ozzy, I think it's hard to argue that he's a better vocalist.

Dio's is a far better singer technically.....but Sabbath is better with Ozzy.......it's not even the same band............
