iAudio X5 battery soldering?

I found a used one on eBay for $75 (!!!), an X5L. I plan on taking out the larger batt and putting in an 80 GB hard drive. Only problem is, the user says they get 15-18 hours out of it (originally rated 35), so I figure in a few months I'd have to replace the battery. If anyone has experience soldering, is it difficult for a newbie? I've never done it before and it seems daunting, but it seems to be a relatively easy procedure.

I've also heard of snipping a bit from the wire already on the PCB and splicing it with the new battery and taping them together. How long'll that work for?

I have plenty of experience soldering and a very respectable soldering station, and i found the two X5 batteries i replaced to be pretty danged annoying to solder down - due to the relatively small area to work in and the fact that the power traces are able to sink a lot of heat.

It might be better to just snip the wires half-way and solder the wires together, hopefully with some heatshrink tubing in place to cover the solder joint.

Also, I wonder if you could use the 5mm samsung 80gb zif drive and an adapter, and keep the double battery configuration. I wonder the same thing about my X5L, actually. I should see if i can fit in a zif adapter and one of the numerous 30gb drives i have laying around.

X5L battery doesn't need soldering, it has a connection
