Why can Mick Jagger sing well no more?

Being a 20 yr old se asian, one of my dreams is to witness the Stones live before either me or them died. Of course my passion for Zep is higher but it seems that there is almost no chance watching them live.
Yet, watching the recent live dvds of them turns me off- Sir Mick can't sing without twisting and phrasing the lyrics like he's out of breath. Maybe he is. The rest of the band play in a mess. I've yet to hear one Stones performance in the 2000s that is at least as groovy and tidy as in the albums. Brown Sugar cranked up on my speaker rig is just awesome.
The only one decent enuff is Shine A Light recording. Other than that, nah. I am really digging the old Stones. For you guys lucky enough to witness them regularly -Are they really performing that bad? Or do your opinions differ from mine? As a Stones fan, I really wish to see them perform with a big bang. Any thoughts on this? Maybe anyone willing to share some good live sound of the Stones?

Probaply age and drugs. Both of them do take a toll as time passes.

but he can still jump and all, just that he doesn't sing well. sigh.

Perhaps he is so in drugs on stage that he doesnt feel the pain in his aged joints?

Just kidding. He probaply doesnt use them anymore either. But in any case, he might have had a bad technique when he sings. It doesnt do good to your throat and vocal chords. Though mostly that just causes a degrading of singing voice, not getting out of breath or singing wrong.

Age....the body have limits

He's also sang those songs thousands of times. Artists change phrasing and feel to keep things interesting, but it doesn't always sit right with listeners.

In addition, his organs are turning to dust. If it's your dream to see them, you had best hurry up.

There were those who said he never sang well. And he especially sucked live.

He's 66. Cut the guy a break - you start to slow down around there.

He's fully burned in.

Yea...66 years old!! Good point. But I never thought he sang very well.

I would suggest finding a copy of Ladies and Gentlemen...The Rolling Stones on DVD. Your wish will be fulfilled. I know people who saw them on their '72 tour who watch this film in awe. Here is the Wikipedia entry on the film:

Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Don't expect spectacle and bombast -- rock tours back then, despite the mythology, were rather tame in that department.

Cartilage tends to grow as people age. This has probably contributed to his singing voice getting lower in frequency, as the vocal chords and larynx are mostly cartilage. Similar evolutions can be found in Dylan's and Cohen's voices, for example. It's a natural product of age.
Also, the Stones play some classic tunes very differently when playing
live, (I can't get no) Satisfaction, for example, is basically a cover of the cover by Otis Redding. And then they introduce a lot of bluesy elements in their performances.

As to Sir Mick Jagger's live performances, he is always top notch. The one who can make or break a Stones-gig is Keith - as much as I apppreciate him, because drunken stupor and technical guitar playing just don't go together too well. But then again, it's Keith. You should know there's an element of uncertainty and danger. He might as well have his best night ever.

My favorite modern Stones live recording is the club session in Paris from the Four Flicks DVD. That should rock any real Stones-fan's world. No play back tracks, no flashy video screens, just plain old-fashioned live music.

Long live the Stones, my favourite band of all time.

yes, I dig those cramped, in-your-face atmosphere- The Big Bang tour's effects and stage props made them look like clowns for me.

I can't even imagine having an opinion on Mick's vocal ability at any time in his career. While I certainly empathize with the desire to see the Stones play a good live show, those days are LOOOOOOOOOOOONG gone.
