Just Bought a New Computer!

Technically, I bought parts, not a computer (from Dell, HP, etc)...

Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz CPU
Asus X58 P6T Deluxe V2 Motherboard
Corsair Dominator 6GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM
Xigmatek Dark Knight CPU Cooler

Keeping from former build:
Antec Performance P180B mid-ATX Case
Western Digital WD6400AAKS 640GB SATAII Hard Drive
Corsair 620HX 620W PSU
X-Fi Fatal1ty Sound Card

I have a spare Geforce 9600GT GPU that I'm going to stall with until next month, when the ATi 5xxx graphic cards come out...then I'll really be finished..

The audio system for this:
Energy Reference Connoisseur RC-10 Bookshelf Loudspeakers
Onkyo Integrated Amp
Denon D2000s are coming, along with a possible AKG K702

I still need a DAC.....looking at a NuForce Icon...maybe a Compass?

How much did you pay for the parts? I'm intrigued. That can really eat any game out there, maybe excep[t for Crysis due to your 9600 GT setup as of now.

I just wrote 3 paragraphs answering your question, but my internet cut off, and I'm just going to summarize what I wrote here...

Essentially, the parts above are worth ~$1300 (w/o GPU, of course), but I paid ~$1000, since I bought most of the parts at good deals (I frequent Slickdeals the week I make a large purchase). Of course, this is not including a high-end graphics card ($2-300), Samsung 23" LED LCD, Logitech 5.1 speakers, PC accessories (I have a Logitech MX Revolution and a G5 gaming mouse), and definitely no audio equipment (my PC audio setup is worth ~1.5K alone). I was tempted to get a Geforce GTX 275 ($220), but felt like waiting another 3 weeks for the next-gen ATI 5XXX series to come out was the smarter thing to do, especially since the rumors I've been hearing, that the 5XXX has twice the processing ability as the 4XXX series...

But i7 is the most expensive platform currently, so expect to spend at least $120 for RAM, and $170 for a motherboard. I remember spending $30 for 2GB of DDR2 memory, and $80 on a P35 motherboard for my Q6600 setup...

P.S: and yes, the build will decimate any game, including Crysis, with any GPU currently over $250. (I play at 1980 X 1080)

Sounds like it's gonna be pretty sweet, congrats! It will be interesting to see those new ATI cards, do you know if they will support DX11?

Believe they're the first DX11 cards out. One of the main reasons I'm not getting a GTX 275 or HD4890 right now.

It'll be interesting to see how far I can OC my i7 920 on my Dark Knight Cooler...I'm striving for 4GHz, which is actually consdered an average OC....
