RMAF: Update

We are having a overwhelming positive response from everyone on our ALO Rx portable headphone amplifier.

The working prototype of the GR9 iPod Transport / DAC and Rx amp is going to be a game changer for portable audio. This device will stack on the Rx which will have the same Rx enclosure.

I am taking orders for the Rx at this time.

Are you going to have a Rx Amp/GR9 iPod Transport / DAC package deal?

We have hopes to release the GR9-ipod transprt DAC device at a later date. We also hope to have this device in the same enclosure as the ALO Rx amp and is designed to stack and work in tandem.

ipod ---> GR9 ipod transport device ---> ALO Rx amp --Your headphones.

This will be the new reference and will re define and blow the lid off portable audio. As far as package deals it is far to early to say how or if this will pan out. For now we are blown away by the comments and feedback we are hearing at the RMAF show on the performance of the Rx amp.

Exciting stuff,

I've posted a query on the Portable Headphone Amp forum, but I'll ask here as well:

I'd love to hear some impressions of the sound characteristics of the Rx amp from those who were lucky enough to listen to it and/or buy it at RMAF.

I heard the Rx at RMAF and have one for review at the house now. Let's just say having owned the SR71 and Pico (what I consider to be the 2 best portables produced) the Rx easily stands in this class range. It may be the most open portable I have heard.

im sure its built strong like a tank with great quality parts, knowing ken.
im excited to hear this amp!
ken says it powers hd-800 very well which is no easy task for any amp!

I have about 25 portables here in my shop, when we were beta testing and tweaking I honestly found the Rx to be deeper more open and have more authority than any of the ones in the collection. The only amp that on par was the SR-71a, of course I guess I am bias

Also you will find a hi gain dip switch on the board, we found that it was not needed. Also IEM users will be extremely happy with the Rx, as it paired wonderfully with IEMs, in fact Jerry harvey (JHaudio) told us that he liked the Rx over all of the ones at his display at the RMAF show and used the Rx for his demo.

I am sure there will be many user and professional reviews on the way, we sent 3 Rx's out this week as they were requested by 3 different publications.

If any of the recent buyers of Rx could report back on this thread we would appreciate the feed back.

thanks

ken

I am putting the Rx through its paces now and while I plan a more detailed write up in the very near future, this amp is easily as good as the best that are out there. Personally I like the SR71 better than the SR71a and think the Rx is better than the 71a in tone and soundstage and more detailed than the 71 but probably tied for soundstage and tone.

This is one killer amp, kudos to Ken and Matt. The case could be nicer based on some the work that I see HeadAmp doing but the sound is if not the best right there with the best.

John,

Awesome... considering the price difference of the amps mentioned vs that of the Rx Matt and I could not be more happy. We are looking forward to more of your thoughts on the Rx. The one I have if getting burned in and has improved significantly. Also with IEMs its really making me smile.

Does the Rx have some push? Matt suggested I try it with some 8ohm speaker and see what happens?! Sounds great!!, umm I dont think you will have any trouble running any phone! We dont advise anyone try this for very long and the Rx is not designed to push speakers. Matt and I are going to run speakers and some special tracks designed to push the amp to the limits for as long as the battery can play to see if the chips over heat or fail. I had them running these audioengine P4 (passive 8ohm speakers) for about an hour no problems.
