I'd go with swordfishtrombones if I could only take one Tom Waits album to a desert island.

For U2 I'd actually go with Achtung Baby! but Joshua Tree is good too....War is good, though not as iconic I think
I've been talking headphones with you for years. Now I can help you with your purchase:) Sales Specialist & Headphone Guru @ Headphones.com

Yes, agree with these... also add Tubular Bells to your list, Mike Oldfield is a must! ... Oh and possibly some Vangelis.

Also, try and get used ones off amazon, in most cases, very good and like new condition discs are in excellent shape and hardly look used. Several of these are very succesful albums and can be had for less than 4-5$ each.

A few more I'd add to the list

Metallica - Black album
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Rush - Moving Pictures
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood
B.B.King - Any compilation album with good ratings is a good bet
Jimi Hendrix - The Ultimate Experience
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
Steely Dan - Aja
The Doors - The Doors
Pearl Jam - Ten
Dave Matthews Band - Crash or Before these Crowded Streets
Eric Clapton - Unplugged

Santana - III or Abraxas
Massive Attack - Mezzanine
Definately seconded all those. BIA and unplugged sound great on almost any headphones too. And instead of the aforementioned highway 61 revisited I would get the freewheelin' Bob Dylan, but thats just my opinion. I prefer The Wall and WYWH to DSOTM, but again thats my opinion. And, being a Dire Straits fan, Making Movies.
