Oops ... dislike anything by Nirvana other than Bleach.

Aiyah! Pink Floyd's debut album is one of the seminal UK psychedelic albums and I think it is a fabulous work. It's a bit off-kilter I suppose so not everyone is going to like it.

I like the later albums too but maybe his voice was blown out by the time Inutero was released. He never again let out the gutteral screams of "can you feel my love BUUUUUUZZZZZZZ!!!!"

are you kidding? Blowin your Mind is awesome! Those bluesy grooves that just keep on going. Come on. I don't know if it is as good as his later albums, not as well polished, but it's a pretty great album nonetheless. Although I can't listen to brown eyed girl anymore, radio, etc ruined it for me

Midlake - Milkmaid Grand Army

I haven't listened to it all that much to be honest, but it is nothing compared to Trials of VO, and Bamnan and Silvercork, which is some of my favorite music right now

It is a stunning debut! But completely separate from the soundscape type music which they became known for...... but Piper is probably in my top 10 best debuts of all time
I think people -- especially younger people -- have trouble relating to Piper because it is so different from what came after. Syd was a sui generis genius, who went his own way in every possible way. I agree wholeheartedly that Piper is one of the great psychedelic masterpieces, and an absolutely brilliant debut.

Odyssey and Oracle? What a great album, and what a great band. I'm not sure I've seen a reference to the Zombies anywhere else on Head-fi. I didn't do a search, but that's my impression.

x2 for Piper being great, and for Odyssey & Oracle. But I guess I'm off-topic. Probably the first Grateful Dead album belongs in the list of poor debuts.
