Amp3 Pro2 and the STUDIO - Page 41

I knew the answer before I tried it but I tried it anyway. The Koss PortaPro is VERY loud with the Amp3 Pro2.
It will definitely hit 'unsafe' levels. (don't risk your hearing please)
This combo sounds great at moderate to low levels as well.
This is "without" the firmware upgrade.
The firmware upgrade will even make it louder (but why bother?)
Great synergy as well. Enjoy !!!

Fantastic, that's very reassuring - thankyou!

To be clear I must say: I don't have any problems driven the grado sr 60 or koss porta pro with the pro2!
What i mean is that it sounds to me better with in ear or in canal headphones!

The volume thing ... it's something that depends if inumerus things,,, mostly everyone ears

Let me says that all my music is in mp3 at 192 kb, which I know is not a very good thing... maybee is that the issue...
more I have an new pair of porta pro the 25 special edition.... my other porta pro as lots of hours ... so it probably affects the global sinergy with the amp3.

But I must say that I love the sound of the porta-pro
Koss have some products that for the price are fantastic... do you guys have tryed the koss ur 40!!!??? I bought one pair from ebay for 30 euros... and they sound very very very good.

At 60 Ohms? Are they loud enough with the Amp3 Pro2? I agree Koss makes a great headphone. I own the Koss Pro4AA from a long long time ago. They started making them in the 70's I think and they still make them today!! Wow

Guess I misunderstood you. My experience is that the Grado and the Ksc35 are the two best sounding phones with the Amp3 for me. The only pair of in-ear phones that sound good to me are the S4s, which have very little hiss. The OEm buds are not bad either, but I have bad ears for buds and they hurt within 20 minutes or so. When I press the buds in, I can hear that great Amp3 SQ, but they just don't work for me (and it's the reason why I have sold the PK1, PK2 and PK3).

Oh, and the 192 bitrates are not the problem, since the Amp3 was made with that specific bitrate number in mind, according to Craig at Whiplash. The idea is not to have to use high-bitrate files or lossless, so says Hissoundaudio. I tried flac, but it kept skipping, so I went back to 192-320 MP3s and WMAs, and they sound great.

I converted my flac to wav and they work perfect, sound fantastic and.....no hiccups. I have the PK1 and PK3 as well and hardly ever use them because like you they don't seat well. They fall out. The Amp3 Pro2 tme (to my ear) mate well with the recabled Zino. I can't say enough about how much I like the combination. I don't know if it is because they were recabled by Craig or what because I bought them that way. (oh and yes, you are right, mp3s are nice too. I am just used to ignoring them. habit more than anything with the Amp3 Pro2)

No they are not lound with the pro2... but enough loud?! It depends... I'm using amp3 most of the time with the hisound ears and the sound is around 18/20 and for me is loud enough for me

The Sq of the amp3 is very good, but the hiss is a real problem if listen to vloumes of 25/30...

I forget who it was, it's in this thread somewhere, but he said the volume with the Portopro's was deafening! So, I wouldn't worry, I think you're golden.
Also, the KSC-35 sounds superb with the AMP3, although I believe the drivers are the same in the two.

Do you find the hiss gets louder as you turn up the volume. I find with my AMP3 that the hiss is the exactly the same whether the volume is 8 , 18 or 28.

Let me write up a step by step firmware upgrade guide.
(I assume you already downloaded the file, un-compressed and have files folder opened.)
Warning
Please do not, DO NOT, upgrade during storm, snow, or while you overload your house circuit. If you are using a laptop, please plug it into a wall socket. Screen saver is ok, disable it if you are a nervous person.

1. Power off AMP3 player
2. Remove Micro SD card
3. Press and Hold both "volume + " and "Center" buttons at the same time.
4. Keep pressing both buttons, while you plug in USB cable.
5. Keep pressing, until your computer found your hardware.
(If your computer did not notify you "new hardware found", keep pressing both buttons for about 60 seconds; because your computer may already find "new hardware", but "notification" was turned off.)
6. Now, both of your hands are free.
7. Double click on the file named, "hisoundaudio" or "hisoundaudio.exe", a window will pop-up.
8. Ignore "Current Firmware Version" and "Upgrade Firmware Version. (They both show same version number when I proceeded with version 5.42.) Just ignore them.
9. Check the box "Format Data Area" located in the middle of window.
10. Click the button "Start" located in the bottom of the window.
(You will see blue flashing working process bar...)
11. Wait 2 - 5 minutes; or, walk away.
12. The screen will not tell you whether "finished" or "failed".
13. When the blue flashing bar is not there, the computer has completed its process.
14. Click "Close" button.
15. Unplug your AMP3 player.
16. Power it on.
17. Use a pin to "Reset" the player.
18. Power it on.
19. Check firmware version. (Menu - Settings - Storage Info - FW Ver. : V5.4X.)
20. Done.

I had lots of problems upgrading my amp3 pro2 from fw4.51 to 4.52 using Windoze XP. See my post:
http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f149/a...ml#post6166540
the method described by david1978jp in the previous post worked for me. The program "hisoundaudio.exe" did not recognize my amp3 until I pushed the correct buttons, which are pretty obscure. If your experience is like mine, you should forget the instructions provided by hisoundaudio and follow the procedure described by david1989jp.

I'm wondering if recognition of the player by highsoundaudio.exe depends on the state of the amp3 (previous firmware version?) or reflects a difference in Windoze installations. Although I only use Windoze when forced to (I use Ubuntu Linux normally), I keep my Windoze installation up to date.

I'm surprised more folks haven't reported similar problems. Did I miss a previous post explaining that the manufacturer's instructions won't work?

Hi Craig, I'm sure I speak for all of us when I ask what happened with this "update" on the Studio. It's cool, maybe you haven't heard much. Maybe the Studio is delayed indefinately. Could you please share any info if you have it? Thanks!
