Amp3 Pro2 and the STUDIO - Page 38

I'm confused. Is the new update now 5.41 or 5.42?

I tried updating and am not sure if successful. My firmware version says 5.41.

Wait, now it says 5.42. I think you may have to copy the three files on to the player, without a folder.

Someone out there... HELP!
Stone Soup Time! I'll start:

The first step is to unzip the .rar file to get a folder with files in it.
I used the 7-Zip File Manager to do that. I've read that WinZip can unzip .rar files, but I'm running a sufficiently old version of WinZip that it doesn't do it. My version of 7-Zip works just fine, though, to unzip the .rar file and to produce a folder of files that can be used (according to Craig's downloadable instructions) to install the firmware update (V5.42 FW, since it's been asked). 5.41 is the version of the firmware to ship on the Pro.2 on the first shipment.

It looks so, that the files, which Graig has uploaded is the version 5.42, which a few guys like me already have installed, isn't it?

How did you update the firmware in your Pro2? I downloaded the update, but I don't know how to reformat the player...

That site won't let me log in. Are those instructions different from Craig's?

Thank you! My problem is that when I download the update from Craig's link, when I select open file, it takes me to iTunes.. It's weird. The file shows up as a music file I guess.

That's likely to be caused by a file extension association.
Try this:
Open a Windows Explorer window
Click Tools->Folder Options
Select the File Types tab
scroll down the extensions list until you come to "RAR"
click on the RAR line in the list
below the list is a panel: Details for "RAR" extension
Opens with: <name of program> <Change button>

I'll guess, when you installed iTunes, that iTunes made itself the registered program for rar files.

Thank you. Let me give that a try...

Just installed 5.42 on the Pro2 with help from HiFlight (thanks Ron) and it worked like a charm. I almost can't believe it. Anyway, I followed Ron's instructions and all went well. There was one caveat. Win7 would not run the installer file (the only .exe file of the trio), asking me if I wanted to run it and even though I said yes, no go. I moved the files to my XP netbook and that worked. I had the same issues with Vista for some reason.

Speaking of which, I want to try and reinstall 5.31 on my Pro1, because last time I merely copied the file over to the internal drive and did not follow the actual install instructions. I am wondering if that's why I am having issues using the Music menu (will only play randomly).

I have a folder with the 5.31 update, but when I try the installer on my XP machine, I get an error message related to the updater.fb file. I think I have the folder and files from sbulack someplace, and will try to dig them out.

Also, why .rar and not .zip? Just curious. Also, PKWare will unzip a .rar file too.

Update: Has anyone with both Pro1 and Pro2 tried to transfer music from one to the other using drag and drop? Just curous.

I'm confused. I don't see folder options when I click on tools..

In Windows Explorer? It should be one of the choices. If not, search for File Types in Windows search.

Ok, thank you, now I need to choose a program other than iTunes for rar files, and I don't know which one to use. Any suggestion?
