Amp3 Pro2 and the STUDIO - Page 34

Thanks again sbulack

It's weird but the reset & hold centre button thing worked straight away today, but when I tried las night, no joy at all!

No matter, now i'm back in business so that's all that matters...

Thanks to all for the suggestions...

Need impressions for the new pro.2 firmware please!!

Is there actually increased gain? Is there increased hiss with IEMs?

I'm thinking if the only change is the gain then I may be better off not upgrading as I only have IEMs presently.

Glad to read that something as simple as trying the reset again today put you back in business with your AMP3-Pro.2. I agree that it's a head-scratcher that it didn't seem to work last night. Well, it worked today. Won't be the first time in the annals of software in which a first attempt to run something fails, the failure is ignored, a second attempt is made and it succeeds. In fact, I've even seen cases in written procedures documenting the above as the expected system behavior for particular functions. Well, enjoy your updated Pro.2! And do please let the rest of us know about the differences you notice as you use the Pro.2 with the updated firmware in place. We're all ears (which, on a headphone forum, makes for a lot of eager ears).

So, no thumbs up yet on the software? I'd love to try it out for myself. I keep reading of others who have it, I'd like to give it a go!

Same here but I'm waiting for the go ahead from Craig. Anyone heard from him?

He's gone to Mexico

He is having some serious back issues, I heard through the grapevine. Guess patience is called for under the circumstances.

Awww darn, back problems are unfortunate. I can barely walk now due to my leg hurting from hereditary Retrolisthesis....Hope he gets better!

I updated my PRO.2 firmware to the US version, and have been unable to initialize my 16gb card, which is working fine in my updated PRO.1.

When I get time, I will try my 8gb card and see what happens.

The firmware update went smoothly, with the drive being formatted as instructed. I did have to hold the Vol+ and Play button to get the firmware to initialize with the player.

All in all, rather disappointing, as I was expecting better results after the firmware update.

I may try the Standard version and see what happens.

The firmware update

OK guys,
I'm quite new to this reviewing lark, but an old hand at music and good sound so i'll give it a shot

I have only had 2 or 3 hrs to listen so far, but there is a definite gain improvement with this firmware update. However, at this stage I would say that it is not as marked as I may have wanted or expected.

I will post any further insights here, after I've listened to a wider range of my files, styles and genres.

I hope these comments help the good folks on this excellent forum

Pro.2 Firmware Update

HiFlight, just a quick question mate. I was pretty disappointed with the volume level on my Pro.2 (Particularly given it's supposed to be both DAP & Amp), finding that I'm listening at either very close to 31 or at 31 depending on headphone/earphone Given your comment about being slightly disappointed with update, just wondering if there's actually any improvement in the gain and hence volume (As Craig previously alluded to) with the update, if not then wondering what the update has improved

Other than that I'm enjoying this unique animal Though I'd have liked a little more bass in the sound signature and less 'hiss', more like my P-51, it is however an extremely 'smooth', 'clean' and detailed sound (Hope that makes sense), different and I'm enjoying it,would definitely buy it again

beeAudiophile, similar questions as i asked HiFlight mate, I'll wait for your further impressions, but wanted to know if there's any joy with the 'gain'(Volume) increasing/improving

By the way all, noticing that there are 2 versions of the firmware update: USA Version & Euro (Standard I think) Version on HiSound-UK , wondering if anyone knows what the difference is, or which one would suit my bass loving tendencies and gain/volume lacking concerns

Just received the Amp3 Pro2, and will check in with my observations soon enough, though I would like to burn it in for a few days at least before saying anything too detailed. I do like the nav wheel better, the clicking vs. the mushy feel of the Pro1. And it turned on pronto (now that was a change!). There is only one track on it, so I need to load up some tunes, plug it into the AC adapter, and run it in a bit with the earphones.

I don't expect it to sound as good as the Pro1 at first, since the latter has 600+ hours on it. But I look forward to comparing the two. I also have to join the others in deciding whether or not to upgrade the firmware for gain improvements, etc. I can do it right away, since it's fresh out of the box. But I don't want it to regress (in the case of it not reading Ron's 16GB card now).

Is it worth it Ron? Would love to read your results/experience post-Standard version, since the U.S. version seems to have caused a problem re the card.
