Amp3 Pro2 and the STUDIO - Page 33

I just played my down to no bars: 50 hours. This was set at 24 using RE0's. Half of what's advertised, but still about ten times better than most. No complaints here.

One should note if you've been leaving the player on for days at a time (burn-in :S) this will have significant impact on the battery life. Volume and temperature will also affect battery performance. The tests are likely done in optimal conditions (while still simulating 'normal use') with whatever they presume to be normal listening volume (probably the volume where you could still hear someone talking in a normal indoor speaking voice while listening to music).

Still though, the battery inside the Amp3 is huge, I wonder if they even bothered to test it, or if they just did some quick math regarding the power consumption of the battery. If that's the method they chose to calculate it, it would also suggest they presume you turn it off every few hours (because they wouldn't calculate the effect of the battery heating up).

Craig, have you got anymore news on the Studios? I'm thinking I might want my money back if this keeps going... I heard from their services that they're in testing phase sending the units to 'audiophiles' but I don't know if that includes we who bought them off you... and considering there's been no word I'm not optimistic at all.

I got an email from shaun at Hi-sound and it said:

1. The player must be charged for 8 hours ( regardless of the Red light )
This is because it is designed with a low charging battery to protect the chip.

2. For 100 hours VOLUME should be set at 8

3. The audio format should be mp3

4. Should use the supplied Ear phones.

I am now doing this to see how long my battery lasts. It took 7hrs to lose the first bar so I don't hold out much hope of approaching the 100hrs. I will lt you know what happens.

I too have purchased the Studio, sight unseen with the expectation that in a couple weeks we would at least get some more details, and maybe some specs. We haven't heard a thing about the Studio 1's expected capabilities. I would love to see even just a pic of the prototype, or SOMETHING. Please? I don't want to seem impatient, but some new info would be more than welcome, and would help all parties involved.

We need to be fed a bone or something here, please.

guys, i just tried to do the software update on my beautiful PRO2, but even with the player connected, the software didn't 'find' the player so to speak! so therefore, no software update yet.

Anyone else have similar issue? If so, any solution would be greatly appreciated...

I don't have the Pro.2 software update yet, and I don't know what the update procedure is that goes with it. When updating my Pro.1, I had a situation which was like the one you describe. I used a procedure which had been posted to the big Amp3 thread by Head-Fier anadin, which goes something like this:

1) hold the +volume button down first.
2) keep holding the + button down, then hold down the play/pause centre
button for 10 secs, keep them both pressed.
3) plug the USB cable in while still holding the aforementioned buttons
and wait until your PC installs 3rd party drivers.
(sbulack here: my PC did not instll the 3rd party drivers for the
plugged-in AMP3 while I was holding the buttons,
so I let the buttons go after a minute or so.
I waited awhile longer for the PC to recognize
the plugged-in AMP3 and to add its memory drives
to its hard drives list - and it did not,
so I proceeded to the next step)
4) I continued with step 3) in Jupiterknight's procedure above,
opening the Version 5.31 latest upgrade folder and double-clicking
the StUpdater...exe.
This time, the "initializing" phase was pretty quick, and the status
window reported "ready".

You may have to adapt the "hold-the-buttons" trick to the Pro.2 update procedure a little differently, but the above procedure worked for me to update my Pro.1. When I did not use the "hold-the-buttons" trick, the Updater.exe program was in a perpetual state of "...initializing...". Also, you can tell that the above steps were for updating a Pro.1 to the version 5.31 Firmware. At that step, you'll open another folder containing the files comprising the Pro.2 update.

I hope this helps you, and good luck.

Craig,

Where do we get the firmware update for the Amp3 Pro2? Last I heard, you were going to test the software and get back to us.

Thank You

So, I just tried the software update on my Pro2. At first no success.
Than I have seen the description:1) hold the +volume button down first.
2) keep holding the + button down, then hold down the play/pause centre
button for 10 secs, keep them both pressed.
3) plug the USB cable in while still holding the aforementioned buttons
and wait until your PC installs 3rd party drivers.
Then it was possible to click the start button in the software exe, because player was recognized by the software.
I hold the two buttons during the whole procedure, but maybe not necessary.
Now I have the firmware 5.42 on my Pro2.
To do the upgrade procedure only with the description, which Jack Fu from hissoundaudio has given to my dealer it was not possible to upgrade , because the player was not recognized.
You have to press the two buttons before you plug in the USB cable.
Thanks to "sbulack" for the ""hold-the-buttons" trick, only with this the upgrade works.
Sorry, but i I can tell you nothing more, because I'm in the office now without
any headphones.

I have now run my battery down from full charge using the PAA-1 earbuds at volume 8 and they only lasted 29hrs.
I have also loaded the new software and I am struggling to notice any difference from the 5.41.

Thank you sbulack for your help on this. I combined your ideas with those of Jack Fu from HiSound and managed to get the player recognised and the updated firmware in.

However, and this is a big however, since disconnecting my PRO2 after the procedure, i can no longer even turn the machine on, or connect it to my pc.

I'm hoping there's a simple 'hold this button down' type solution but i fear this one is more serious somehow.

If any of you guys recognise this situation, any pointers will be much appreciated...

Regards
Brian

When I have updated the firmware on my AMP3, after disconnecting it from my computer, I have reset it - put the end of a paper clip into the reset "hole" and push gently but firmly until a "click" is felt, and then remove the paper clip. After about 40 seconds of waiting (after the reset), I push and hold the center button - and usually nothing happens - so I release it. And, then, about 20 seconds later, I push and hold the center button again, and the unit powers on - as shown by the display and LED's.

In fact, I don't know what would happen after an update without a reset. I've always performed the reset after every update I've performed on my AMP3.

I hope that his helps you. If not, I'm sure that Jack Fu at HiSoundAudio will be able to provide more knowledgable suggestions than I am able to.

Updated mine. What's the difference between the American Firmware vs the Standard Firmware?
