Sorry, I don't mean to belabour the subject but I have just come across this MP3 Royalty payment schedule.

The open tab relates to Hardware royalties. My eye went to the Annual Minimum payment of $15,000!!!

Surely it is in the interest of hardware manufacturers to support open source codecs in the hope that the usage gains more widespread adoption. At least do this even they can't bring themselves to actively promote the benefits. Though the reasons why they don't explain the options eludes me too.

The bottom line is that we the customers are paying this levy as part of the hardware and software cost and it is to our benefit for alternative free codecs to gain traction.

Again, my apologies for monopolising an OT subject but I feel it somewhat concludes the issues raised in the posts above.

I already know what I want in Studio II

* 120 gb (or larger) Internal SSD; 32 gb slot. (In my home system I am well into my second terabyte of a.i.f.f. files. I would be willing to convert files for the portable to FLAC but I need drive space).

* Enough power output to drive all but the most power hungry cans. It does not need to drive HD6xx and such.

* What we need is a true audiophile source. The rumor says that Apple is going to cameras on the Ipods. C'mon. It is necessary to read the files, convert them to audio, and amplify them. Is it--as I suspect--that the tricky exchange is the hand-off between the digital stream and the DAC? What is jitter when one is desigining on this scale? How is the whole clocking matter resolved and so forth? I am not much of a gearhead, but I am somewhat obsessed with music and find myself worry about gear whether I want to or not. I am happy with my home rig, but I am now spending a lot of time away from home and travelling back and forth. The real problem is source. The portable amps and cans are quite amazing.

I just don't think i'll be picking up an amp3 until a model is released that can hold at least 40GB worth of data at a time (without swapping cards), whether it be through larger internal storage, accepting 32GB cards, or accepting 2 cards.
I vote that be the first update to the amp3 pro3

My ideal would be an add on module that could accept a micro HD up to 240GB as well as the larger on board memory and possibly 2 card slots. Then you would be hard pressed to run out of space.

Oh, and since it is a wish list, 96-24 playback (so you can fill up that space with 96-24 FLAC). A player with the SQ of the AMP3 would probably be amazing with 96-24!

x2. 32gb onboard + 32gb SD with flac support wouldn't suck at all...

Is this a baseball analogy? it sounds American to me. What does it mean? What does a man on 3rd do, is it similar to silly mid off?

Is base hit akin to leg before wicket? Do you shout 'fore' if it is a ground out. All very confusing. Sorry!

Awesome stuff. So AMP3 products are developed in tandem with Whiplash Audio?

The Studio series sounds really exciting, can't wait for impressions.

Is there any chance that the future models of Amp3 will support Ogg Vorbis format since it's an open source format like flac and shouldn't cost any sorts of royalties or licensing, but just "a bit" of development to support their software.
