I owned the AMP3 Pro1 and paired it with the Koss portapro Anniversary Edition 60ohm and it was a wonderful combination, the volume could be deafening so I find it hard to believe that the Pro2 can't drive your ESW9 to a satisfactory level.

Can anyone confirm if the AMP3 Pro1 has more juice than the Pro2.

Yes I can. I have the Pro1 (thanks again annadin) & the Pro2. I posted a few posts back (pg. 21) that my Pro2 was significantly lacking in the volume department. I have used my PK1's almost exclusively with the Pro1 and Pro2. And I like to listen to my music a little on the loud side but not to the point of deafening.

The Pro1 has always satisfied my volume needs and then some, but when walking back home from work yesterday I was listening to my Pro2 and actually had my volume maxed out on the Pro2. I couldn't get the volume past 24 on the Pro1 without practically blowing out my eardrums and I normally listened at about 19.

As I said in my previous post the Pro2 has just enough volume to satisfy me in most situations with the PK1's. But if I ever moved to using it with less efficient phones, it would be truly disappointing. I can't imagine actually hearing the music if I used a phone like the HD600!

If this isn't improved I'm going to have to return it. I could try to sell it, but in good conscience I would have to mention the lack of volume and I couldn't imagine anyone wanting it after hearing that! Somebody help please!

I love the Pro2 SQ already, but it's not excactly a treat to use on a loud DC Metro train, unless I use IEM's. I prefer the sound with supra-aural 'phones, but my Pro2 doesn't have enough juice to compete well with the ambient noise of the train. As far as using it at home, it sounds AMAZING. Will the Studio 1 have more power?

Wow. Thanks for confirming this. I wonder if attempting to fix the HISS resulted in the volume loss?

After speaking to hisoundaudio, the "random" issue is being looked at. The fix cound potentially be solved by software

Good News!!

Thanks for the info, you have just cemented what I already thought to be the case, after I sold you my Pro1 I really missed it and have got hold of another one via a Head-Fi member, the original factory firmware is going straight back on it once I receive it.

Good job on securing a Pro1 anadin. I never thought I would have to amp my Pro2 with my Pro1

I've heard a lot about the original firmware. Do you have a link to that or can you otherwise share it with me? I only have the firmware release after the original. I'd like to give the original a try.

My iPhone is louder than my Pro2!!! I just had to amp the Pro2 with my Fiio E5. One of the main selling points of the Amp3 was that there's no need to amp it, right??. Could there be a FW fix that could make the Pro2 more like the Pro1 ?

Craig,

It's good to know that HiSoundAudio are motivated to keep improving the software issues. The Volume reduction that some are reporting with Pro.2 can probably also be corrected in the software without reducing the improved SQ that also has been reported.
And I do look forward to hear more about the studio version.. since that may the one I'm waiting for to please my aural cravings

Glad that you were able to get a hold of another Pro.1 unit, anadin.

On my Pro.1, I prefer the 5.31 (updated) FW. There seem to be some differences between the Pro.1 units which causes them to respond differently to the two FW versions released for the Pro.1 by HiSoundAudio. Depending on how a particular Pro.1 unit responds to each of the two FW versions, and the preferences of the owner, one or the other FW version would be favored. For me, and the Pro.1 in my possession, that would be the 5.31 FW.

The main reasons behind my preference are:
1) I prefer the power-on defaults of the 5.31 FW. Mainly that Sleep Time is Off when the Pro.1 is powered up.
2) I prefer the SQ using the 5.31 FW - a milder, warmer sound, but without losing any of what I like to call the "fresh", "live" sound of the AMP3.
3) For my Pro.1 unit (which is different than for other Pro.1 units), using the 5.31 FW, I can use a 16GB microSDHC card in my Pro.1 (up to about 1.6 GB short of being totally full). On my Pro.1 unit, running the 5.26 FW, the AMP3 does not see any of the files on a 16GB card - even if the total space used by the files is well below 8GB. Again, this is different than has been reported for other Pro.1 units.

Edit: I did not notice this until my 2001st post, but that makes this my 2000th post! For whatever that's worth - it's a reasonably large and nicely round number of times to have done something requiring as much effort as creating a post. Post 2000!!! Woo-Hoooooo!!!!!

Hey...

I will answer your PM later tonight. I have a crazy amount of JH13 pro recable jobs that truly makes the JH13's one of the best headphones PERIOD. Not by class, but simply by sound. Using my SCSCag UP-OCC silver wire, the JH13's are unreal...

Thats for another thread - SORRY!!!
