Best Portable cans, dont give me nonsense

Getting really tired of the lack of great headphones for mp3 player usage. This fad with the 10 foot 5lb cord has got to stop. I've used the Phillips HN110 for years and you know what...i enjoy them more than my shure 840s. They are not as loud as them or as crisp, but they just sound better through an mp3 player. Now of course through a pc or amp the 840s are nice...but thats besides the point

I am looking for the best portable set of cans, over the ears, for 50-100$. I might go rebuy the HN110 or the newer model if i cant find anything. This just upsets me. I can't seem to find anything I am happy with.

there must be a cheaper headphone out there suited for mp3 player usage that will just floor me.

I would say the Koss PortaPro, Senn PX-100, or iGrado. However it depends on what you listen to.

Best of luck.

There are plenty of 32 ohm cans out there in that price range that should work well on a DAP.

I use the Senn HD485's on my DAPs. They have a ten foot cable but I wound it up and I have no problems. Not very even sound, but I love them.

Grado SR60's are also popular low ohm phones.

I guess neither of these choices aren't the most portable though, most portable pair of cans I can think of that are supposed to sound good are the Senn px100's but they're cheap-ish phones.

If none of these choices are good I guess your stuck with IEMs

Oh dear. There are so many threads on portable headphones for less than $100. In fact, there's probably around 2-3 a day. It's ridiculous, there's a search button for a reason. Also, the 3 meter long cords are for home use, obviously not for portable. And if they're that bad, reterminate them to your preferred length! I first did that when I was 13, it doesn't really take much skill.

Regardless, Audio-Technica ES-7's are probably the best way to go for that price range. Maybe AKG81's with some damping, but for that price range, don't expect to be blown away.

The HD485's are basshead phones. If that's what you are looking for, they are very comfortable, and are listenable once you get used to the hyped bass. I would call them full size cans rather than portables though.

apparently there's a deal going on, on senn hd25-1 II

they're good, and will fit your budget.

but i too was previously looking for portable, amp not necessary cans. sadly, if you want good isolation, there are shockingly few options in that catagory. if you don't care about isolation, i own a pair of px100s which are "flooring" for the price and work PERFECT without an amp straight out of a 2nd gen ipod touch, or better yet, a nano chromatic (i think that's what they're calling the latest ones).

heard a lot from the porta-pros, and hell, they've been around for 25+ years. There's gotta be something to them.

if you're not going to shoot for the much loved hd25-1 (which i bloody would have, had i not just ordered custom IEMs), then i would look at hd228, or the ATH-es7 (though, as above mentioned, some people like them. some people detest them. have yet to find someone who loves them).

Just my input...

Oh, and if any manufacturers are reading this, this is a good opening for a product right here! I'd call it, portable isolating headphones. because there just aren't enough options out there, which fit everything all around. Not everyone's ears work for universal IEMs, and not everyone has the ability to spend that much on custom IEMs.
it's a relatively large market, cause we're all on the go at some point in our day. (at least most people)

Why not look at the Senn HD228(closed) or 238(open) portable phones. The 228 is more easily driven and good bass from what I hear.

Save up and get the ATH-ESW9's. Thats just my opinion since I love them so much. Paid $219 shipped. Im sick of the under $100 catagory I have shure se530 and FX-500's IEMs and I wont listen to them unless I have to. I listen to all kinds of music. Its comparing apples to oranges, I know, but I havn't read anything bad about the ESW9's. And their highly portable. I know times are tough for some, but some things are worth it.
