I have a 5th gen video ipod that I recently installed Rockbox on. I've been searching for discussions on suggested EQ settings given the high praise for Rockbox+5g ipod/wolfson DACs. The most seemingly informed post I've seen thus far on Rockbox EQ settings has the High Shelf set at 18,010hz which seems inappropriate for any Etymotics given they only go up to 15,000hz by design.
My experience with the ipod and hf5s as compared to the ipod connected to a Headroom Airhead with the ER4S is that the bass is substantially sloppier and muddier. This is no surprise as I don't expect the ipod to directly compete with a seperate amp but I am interested in trying to do whatever is possible with the EQ to clean and tighten up the bass response.
